The Amazing Earthquake Hitachi Vibe

I absolutely would not want to live without this toy. It is simple, high quality, and not lacking in power. I've had my most intense orgasms to date using this toy.
Published: April 20, 2010
Pros:
Simple to use, powerful toy, which is great for use by yourself or with a partner.
Cons:
The vibrations can be a bit strong, and this probably isn't the best beginner toy.

Use

The Hitachi magic wand is just that - magic. When I first opened this toy up, I was immediately surprised by how heavy it was. Paperweights have nothing on this toy. After playing with it a few times, I completely understand why it is a plug-in type toy. Hitachi would eat batteries for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Because of the heaviness of the toy, and the fact that its vibrations are insanely powerful (so powerful that if you use this on your thigh or knee area, you will feel the vibrations all the way down to your foot.. On the *low* setting. Now, that is power), I didn't really enjoy it the first time I used it. It took a few times to really learn how to use it with my body and have a good time. It takes me a long time to really get into it with my Hitachi, but it also gives me the longest lasting orgasms I've experienced yet, I'm in love.

The Hitachi is fun to use on your own, but also a lot of fun to use with a partner. It is great for forced orgasm BDSM scenes, or just to watch your partner squirm under its powerful vibrations. It also has a set of accessories that go really well with it, and make the Hitachi an insertable toy. Without the accessories, this is really more of a giant, intense, amazing clit toy. Once you try it, I know your other toys are just going to collect dust.

Material / Texture

The Hitachi is made of food grade, hypoallergenic, phthalates free plastic and is also latex free. The shaft of the toy is very smooth, but like I mentioned, very heavy. I didn't notice any smell coming off the toy, and it is easy to just wipe the toy off with a damp cloth when you're done. The entire toy is very stiff, including the head, but the head is textured and has a bit more give to it. This toy will just nestle perfectly between your curves, like it was built to live there.
    • No odor
    • Not porous at all
    • Rigid

Design / Shape / Size

The Hitachi is a great toy, but I think that most beginners might feel a little bit threatened by it at first. It's large and menacing, and when I first turned it on I was a bit scared about getting it anywhere near my girly bits. Once I actually got over my fear of it though, this toy really helped me reach new orgasmic levels I never thought possible. The head really is just the perfect shape to nuzzle into crevices and it feels so good doing it. I do wish it was just a little bit smaller, and a bit easier to lift, because after playing with it for a while my hand gets tired and goes numb from the buzzing. The good news is that this toy is just as much fun to play with a partner, so you can give your poor hands a rest now and then.

If you're making a trip or traveling, I don't recommend bringing this toy. Unfortunately, the sheer size of the toy doesn't make for easy hiding. The handle itself is about 9" long, and the head of the toy is about 2.5 inches in diameter - this is a BIG toy.

I found the cord to be a bit of a pain, due to the shortness of it. The cord is only 6 feet long, so you've got to make sure that if you're using this on the bed you've got it plugged in somewhere really close. A longer cord would have definitely been appreciated.

Functions / Performance / Controls

The Hitachi has two settings: High, and Earthquake. Just kidding. The controls are really easy to adjust though, with a simple Hi or Low switch located on the middle of the toy. It is pretty easy to flip the switch even if you're otherwise busy.

Once you plug it in, you will KNOW it is on because this toy is LOUD. So loud, that no only will you know that your toy is on, but so will the person in the next room over. That's not a problem for me because I only live with my husband, but if you live with roommates, you may want to turn on a C.D. or something.
    • Easy to use
    • Not discreet at all
    • Powerful

Care and Maintenance

Luckily, this toy is really easy to care for. I usually just wipe it down with a damp towel with a bit of mild soap, and it's good to go. I usually keep this toy as my "go to" vibe right by my bed. I don't even bother trying to hide it since I just live with my husband and we use it a LOT. If I have company coming over, I'll put it in one of my many toy drawers, but luckily for my Hitachi, that isn't often.
    • Easy to clean
    • Easy to store

Packaging

My Hitachi arrived in a lovely blue box, but once you opened up the box it was basically just a hot mess. The toy itself was wrapped over and over in a TON of sheet plastic. The sheet plastic included a paper guide on how to find your g-spot, how to clean the toy, and basically said not to immerse in water. It was about three pages long and included more than one language. The paper and sheet plastic itself was then wrapped in what had to be the biggest amount of packing tape I've ever seen. Getting through all that tape and plastic was a challenge, but once I got it done my prize was my amazing new magic wand.
Follow-up commentary
This is still a great toy, but I find that it really is not for everyday use. The toy is so powerful, and using it too often makes my clit sore. I did find a way to make it a bit less "harsh" though. My husband recently got a Tenga Egg, and I found out that they make excellent covers for the hitachi, while giving it just a bit more "softness". This toy is really still a great addition to our toy box, and we will continue to use it often.

  • Good alternative to Hitachi?
    • I had a rechargeable mini fairy wand, but last week it ended up breaking, and now I'm desperately looking for a similar type wand massager. I've looked at a couple, but I'd really like some input on which massager people are recommending. Thanks!
    • I have 3 wand massagers that I use at times. There are things I love and hate about all of them. The hitachi is the most powerful one, but it is so loud! The Wahl 2 speed is also great. It is the quietest and I love how rumbly the vibes are! But none of the attachments are quite right for me. If I could only have one wand I would get Inspire. It has a button that you press and release when the power is at your desired strength. In stead of just 2 speeds like the hitachi or the wahl you have control over how much power you want to use. The Inspire has a detachable silicone head. My complaints are that it gets hot after about 20 minutes, at at the higher speeds it gets pretty loud. Your toy was rechargable, but the wands I listed all plug in and have more power. Good luck with your replacement!

Ooh, thanks! Yeah, the rechargeable wands tend to get really hot too, plus it would die after 20-30 minutes, so I needed to stay near an outlet at all times. Noise isn't really an issue for me (at least not right now). The one I had before had an adjustable wheel for vibration intensity, but to be honest, I always turned it all the way up and never changed it, so maybe I don't really need adjustable speeds.

I've never tried any of the detachable heads. Are they worth buying?

  • Will it be out of stock until the sale is over?
    • Ekk! It is out of stock again! I keep missing it. I finally have enough to buy it but I guess the discount made it sell like crazy. Does it typically not come back in until the sale is over?

Panicing a bit because I'm moving soon and will need to purchase it within the next week.
    • You can open a support ticket from your account dashboard to ask about it. If they know when it'll be coming in they'll be happy to tell you.
    • Perfect! Thank you!

  • Strength
    • Are there any stronger vibrators out there?
    • Quote: Are there any stronger vibrators out there?
Probably not for less than fifty dollars. A friend of mine is saving for the Sybian or The Rock Box. I can't speak from experience about either of those vibrators though. However, if you want something similar to the Hitachi, I would suggest either The Wahl or a Fairy Wand. I own the Hitachi, Wahl, and Fairy Mini but highly suggest the Wahl. It is the most rumbly of the three and is nearly silent.

I think the Hitachi is the strongest vibe i know of.

  • Hitachi Wand Vs. Acyvube
    • Is the hitachi better than the acuvibe for anyone who has had the chance to try both? I'm under the impression that they are essentially the same thing but maybe I'm wrong...
    • I have had both, and they are really both very good toys. The main difference really is that the Acuvibe is rechargeable and can be used cordless, while the Hitachi must plug in to work. Personally, I think that the Hitachi is slightly stronger, and it has definitely outlasted my Acuvibes - I have had two, and they both broke down after about six months or so.

We are going on 3+ years on the acuvibe. The shell is starting to crack but it still functions great, I just wanted to know if we should switch when I do want to buy a new one. More powerful sounds good :)

  • The Size !!!!!!!
    • Does the size get in the way ??????? It's so BIGGGGGG........
    • In the way of what, exactly? It's not really a toy for couples play and actually it's not even designed for masturbation but has become the Holy Grail of vibrators through decades of word of mouth.
    • Quote: Does the size get in the way ??????? It's so BIGGGGGG........
It's really only meant for external use. So if you are talking about insertion it probably would be a bit big.

  • Universal
    • Is there a head set for universal attatchments anyone knows of?
    • There are a few. If you search the site you can find a couple.
    • Quote: Is there a head set for universal attatchments anyone knows of?
I don't know if I understand the question, but the attachment we bought for our Hitachi is a "universal" attachment that we bought from another store. It's too "floppy" for me, but is a nice g-spot attachment, or would be if it was a little stiffer!

  • Bullet Vibes that rival the Hitachi Magic Wand
    • Hello, everyone!

Recently I've sold my Hitachi to a friend, and I've been on the market for a new clit vibe. I'm one of those girls who has a "clit-o-steel&quo t;, so I can't really get off unless I have something powerful on my clit. I bought a LAYAspot by FunFactory, thinking it would be a nice, powerful bullet to use when I'm with my partner, and I realized that it barely even packs a punch!

I guess I'm being a bit picky. I don't want something that's as strong as the Hitachi's HIGH setting, but something kind of inbetween the two, one that has a few nice, strong modes.

I was looking at the more expensive clit vibes- JeJoue's MiMi and Lelo's Siri. Do you think that they would be strong enough? Do you recommend anything? Thanks guys!

U had the flexi anal rod prior to the Hitachi..It is strong as well, and it probably right between the hitachi hi and low... I actually prefer the two setting on Hitach..SHIT and OHH SHIT.. The flexi rod has about 4 if i'm not mistaken..Plus it is flexible as well.. Costs about 25.00

Its on a review of mine already..

  • Hitachi
    • This is by far the best purchase I've made. My wife has a tough time reaching orgasm and needs the intense vibrations for her to climax. The Hitachi far exceeds this task, she doesn't use any other toy now, always reaches for the Hitachi. Just need to get her the G-spot attachment and she is set up. Thanks again.
    • I completely agree. The Magic Wand is the best vibrator ever.

  • Have you ever used a wand?
    • HI I was wondering if you have ever used anything like the Fairy Wand? I have used the baby fairy wand but its tiny... the size of the larger ones kind of intimidate me ... what are your thoughts on them and should I get one?
    • I dislike most of them intensely. They're too strong, too big and they make my whole vulva - as well as my hands - feel numb.

      Many folks love them, though!
    • I used the Wanachi Mini, which I really liked. Unfortunately it fell apart, it seems mine wasn't the only one either. I did contact Pipedream though and they seem eager to correct this problem!
