An Easy Approachable Silicone Plug
If you are looking for a plug which will prepare you for everyday anal sex, this is the one. It is soft, comfortable, and easy-to-clean. I liked the non-sexist packaging, and I plan to get years of use out of this one. But I will also be looking for something a little thicker to prepare myself for more serious, ambitious play.Published: July 10, 2011
Pros:
Easy-to-clean silicone. The perfect size to prep for anal sex or a 1 1/2 diameter dildo.
Cons:
Too small for the enthusiast. The flared base was too small and soft to prevent it slipping inside.
I bought this plug because it is made from soft, hygienic silicone, and more importantly the perfect size to prepare my ass for sex with a normal, good-sized cock. In my experience most men seem to have about the same diameter as the plug--1 1/2 inches.
If you are prepping for strap-on play, the Ryder also works well with a matching 1 1/2 inch diameter dildo. In fact, I purchased the Ryder in particular to prepare for a good vigorous fuck later in the afternoon with Leo.
Ryder is certainly comfortable and well-made. The construction is smooth and seamless. The silicone is much easier to clean and more hygienic than rubber plugs. It is softer and much easier to insert than glass dildos of comparable size. It is a durable, high quality plug.
After a bit of cleansing and with a bit of water-based lube, I easily inserted the Ryder and left it in place for the next four hours while I worked and walked about.
For better and worse, it is pretty modest in size. Perfect if you are prepping for anal sex. Perhaps a bit small if you are fairly accustomed to anal sex and are hoping for something playful and fun in itself.
The flared base is soft and somewhat narrow, which makes it comfortable, if not extremely so. Unfortunately, the softness of the base makes it also quite prone to being inserted whole. I actually gave myself a bit of a scare when the Ryder slipped inside almost without effort, something that has never happened with other materials.
After a nice four hours of wear, my ass was not a bit sore and was in a perfect state for a vigorous painless fucking.
I plan to use the Ryder any time I am expecting a good ass fucking.

Can we get more toys in Copper?
-
The Ryder in Copper is so pretty. I'd love to see more toys offered in this colour. :) Is that likely to happen at all? I haven't seen it on any other listing. Is this colour discontinued?

Is this colour discontinued?Yes, it sure has been discontinued. It was weird - Copper was a slow seller, and we got some feedback from retailers that it wasn't at all popular. Then when we discontinued last Spring it got snapped up pretty quickly. I only have closeouts left, but we're hoping that by discontinuing Copper we'll have more time in the production schedule to pursue other colors.

Glow in the dark? That's my favorite color! Maybe something black light reactive?

Why should you never use silicone on a silicone toy?

Why should you never use silicone on a silicone toy?

Some, not all silicone lube will 'stick' to silicone material. I have read that some premium silicone lubes will work with some premium silicone materials. You can try some on the base and see, when I last tried it kinda etched the silicone material. (does that make sense) It left a indentation were the lube was.
That's the basics, Some of the other members can give a more technical answer. -
Some silicone lubes will bond to some silicones. This seems to be more of an issue the softer the silicone is, so toys like O2 and VixSkin will be more susceptible (makes sense, as the silicone has fewer crosslinks). Quality lubes seem to have less of a problem also, and it is likely that cheaper silicones might have more of a problem.
I have tested quality silicone lube on several quality silicone toys and did not notice a permanent problem, but (a) the toys developed "hives" that lasted for a few hours (was gone the next day) and (b) it's really hard to clean the silicone lube off of the toys, but it can be done. While this is purely subjective, but it seemed that the silicone lube wasn't as "lubey" on silicone toys. I don't use silicone lube on silicone toys anymore - it's just not worth the trouble.

Is this going to be in stock soon?

If you haven't noticed, I've been going over my wishlist (see the O2 discussion) and I've noticed that this plug that I've wanted forever isn't even in stock. Will it be restocked?
-
That's funny. Two of the toys that I want to purchase are out of stock as well. The Vixen Ryder and Johnny. Then I noticed that several Vixen products are out of stock at the moment. I wonder when all of these toys will be restocked.

Thank you for viewing Ryder – anal toy review page!

Thanks for pointing out the issues with the base. That is a pretty big safety concern.
Good review, thanks!
By the way, what is the length of this plug?
Eeeek! I'm glad this was out of stock last time I was choosing between plugs! I'll have to pass if it slips inside. Thanks for bringing that to light!
