I adore the Ryder from Tantus. It's become my favorite anal plug and has allowed me to be more comfortable during anal sex. Having this in our sex life has added that little bit of extra spice in my marriage. It stays put and leaves me feeling full and excited.

Pros
Doesn't slip out Full feeling Easy to care for Feels great
Cons
Tip can be difficult for some to insert Left over smell may require some extra care
The Ryder is an anal plug from Tantus that would be best for those who have had some experience with anal toys and feel they are ready to move on from smaller toys. The Ryder is definitely a plug that is best used as an intermediate toy as its size will most likely be too large for beginners.
While there are no bells and whistles when it comes to this product I have found it to be the best I have ever used up to this point. Until I found this plug I was ready to give up on finding a good one. All the others I've used have managed to slide out every time whether I was playing solo or with my hubby. The Ryder, however, has yet to slide out.
As someone who enjoys anal sex from time to time I've found that the Ryder is a great warm up tool. My hubby will use the Ryder on me until he feels that I am ready and by the time I arrive at that point there is no discomfort at all. Without the Ryder I think I'd be feeling a lot more discomfort when it comes to anal sex.
It is also really fun to leave in while having sex. You'll get to experience the feel of double penetration and depending on the size of your partner you will mostly likely be left feeling quite full. This could become uncomfortable for those who have partners who are quite large. For me, I have found this use of the Ryder to be perfect.
The last of my favorite uses is for solo play. I have used it several times while I'm alone coupled with other toys as well as vibrators. Once again, depending on the size of the vibrator this could get uncomfortable so stick with a size you enjoy. I've also left the Ryder in and went about my day to day routine. If you do this then I suggest taking it out from time to time to apply additional lube as it can dry out and become painful.
The Ryder is purely silicone and is non-porous, hypoallergenic, latex free, and phthalates free. Being non-porous is something I find extremely important when it comes to anal toys. I think it makes the Ryder so much easier to care for and helps the life of the toy. It’s super easy to clean and sterilize.
It is completely smooth. In fact, it is so smooth that it doesn’t use up a ton of lube when in use. Just be sure to avoid silicone based lubes as it will severely affect the life of the Ryder. It also has no smell which I enjoy but it’s not something I find completely necessary in a toy such as this.
As far as anal plugs go, the Ryder is really firm but is still flexible enough that it will conform to the shape of your body. The design is extremely simple and I find it to be one of the more simple designs available on the market. It’s sort of shaped like a long, large bullet.
It feels the most natural out of the anal plugs I’ve tried. Most plugs available will be tapered to allow the user to adjust to different sizes but these plugs are usually the ones that slide out easily. The Ryder’s mostly uniform shape allows it to stay in place and will be more comfortable for long term use. As previously mentioned, just be sure to use enough lube and the Ryder will do the rest. I really enjoy the fact that the size doesn’t change but it could come as a shock to those who are beginners or the first time you use a toy with this shape. If you’re new to any type of anal play I won’t tell you not to try this but just use caution. It can look intimidating at first but given you are “primed and prepped” I think just about anyone could enjoy this toy.
The Ryder is 4 ¼” in length with an insertable length of roughly 3 ¾”. This is due to the base. I’ve seen quite a few complaints about those who worry the base will slip inside but I have yet to have this problem and I’ve used this toy several times. The base is shaped like the top of a capital “T” and while it isn’t the thickest of bases I don’t see it allowing the plug to slip in. There is also no danger of the base coming loose as it’s completely attached to the top. According to the product page the circumference measures in at 4 ¾” while the diameter is 1 ½”. Having no way to measure these accurately I cannot attest to the product pages validity but from what I can tell it seems correct.
One of the best things I’ve found about this toy is the fact that it doesn’t slip out. A plug slipping out has been one of my biggest struggles in finding a good one for a long time now. It has been such a struggle that I was ready to give up. Then, along comes the Ryder that I was referred to by one of my favorite bloggers. I am so happy to have found this plug and it’s been my favorite for months.
When I started using this plug I had already experienced anal sex before. Sometimes I found it comfortable and sometimes I hadn’t. My hubby and I had yet to successfully have anal sex as his size was just too large for that area. Or so it seemed anyway. At the same time I didn’t feel that I was at the beginner level as far as plugs go so I took a chance and ordered this one.
The first time I used this plug it was slightly uncomfortable for a few minutes. Even though I had used enough lube I had to sit and wait a few moments to get used to the size. Once I was completely adjusted to the size I found myself surprised at how comfortable it was. It felt much more natural than the other plugs I had tried and I felt aroused all over. I soon coupled it with my vibrator and the sensations I experienced were amazing! I was left feeling full and satisfied.
A few weeks later Hubby and decided to try it together. He worked his magic on me and used this plug in several ways. First, he left it in for a while and after that he’d grab the base and use it to thrust gently. After a few moments of this I agreed that it was time to try anal sex again. Long story short, we tried it and it worked perfectly! I wasn’t the least bit uncomfortable and it was all due to the Ryder!
One of the first things you will notice about most silicone toys is they attract fuzz. I’m sure most of us agree that fuzz isn’t exactly sexy. You can store the Ryder in plastic bags after it’s clean and dry. If you don’t like this option then you can wrap it in a cloth or toy bag. If you do this it will attract fuzz so I suggest washing it with soap and warm water before using just to be sure the fuzz is gone. I usually store mine in an old, clean makeup bag. This keeps air flowing as well as keeping the plug from other silicone toys.
The great thing about silicone toys is there are several options as far as cleaning. You can wash in hot/warm water and use antibacterial soap. Leave out to dry completely and then store the toy. You can use toy wipes and sprays. Another option is using the top rack of your dishwasher with no detergent. I’m not a big fan of this option as it just seems so weird to me, but hey, if it works then use it. Boiling for 2-3 minutes is also a great option. You can also wipe the Ryder down with a 10% bleach solution. Just please be sure you properly rinse it before use. My favorite option if I have the time is to wipe it down with bleach and then boil it. I’ve had the Ryder for around 7-8 months and haven’t had any issues with it so far.
The one thing I have noticed is that there is an odor left over. It doesn’t matter how clean you are, how much you wash, or even how many enemas you use there will still be some smell left on the toy. This is just the nature of anal play. The best thing for me has been my cleaning method of a bleach solution, boiling and storing in my makeup bag that allows some air in. Airing out the Ryder seems to help greatly.
It’s very important to stay away from silicone based lubes when using silicone toys. They will affect the life of the toy as well as damage the material. This will mean less pleasure, less use of the toy, and it’ll be a waste of money.
The Ryder comes in clear, plastic packaging. In other words, you can see through it. The box definitely isn’t discreet because not only can you see in but it also has information on the product. I can’t imagine trying to tell anyone it was anything other than what it is but at least there aren’t any scantily clad people or naked bodies on the front!
I don't feel that the Ryder was made with beginners in mind but I definitely cannot steer you away from this product. It's definitely for people in the more intermediate area due to the size but I don't think it would be terribly uncomfortable for newbies either.
I really can’t begin to tell you how much I have enjoyed using the Ryder. It truly has been a joy for me. It was great while I was playing solo but my experiences with it got even better as Hubby and I integrated it into our play. Having this in our life has helped add a little extra spice in our sex life.
Before this product I was unable to handle his girth while attempting anal sex but after using this for a while I am now able to enjoy anal with him. It’s definitely helped us in many areas and I feel we are closer because of it.
While other plugs have always given me problems the Ryder never has. It's never once slipped out and that is a huge plus for me!
Follow-up commentaryI still like it19 days after original review
I think I will always love this toy. We've had this for around 8 months now and it is seriously at the top of our toy box. It gets used at least once a week, sometimes more. It's great for preparing for anal sex and I think I'll order another as backup! The quality is still perfect and it's still like the day it came in the mail.

Amazing review! I hadn't really thought of the Ryder as a toy I was interested in, but I think I'll put it on my wishlist now.

It looks like they've redesigned the base from the one that I purchased a couple of years ago(same as what's shown on the product page). It looks like they rounded off edges and made it a bit thicker. I may have to think about getting an updated one.

Great review, thanks!

Great review of one of my favorite anal toys; been using it for 5 years.
I do disagree that the Ryder may not be good for beginners. I started with anal beads and some other v. flexible toys which were totally unsatisfying.
The Ryder, with lube, slides right in, I hear and feel the pop and it stays put!
