Ryder's shape takes a little more effort to insert considering it's not that large. I would suggest beginners start with an anal plug that has a tapered base. This one is difficult to use and may not be encouraging for people new to anal plugs. For more experienced individuals it's a comfortable plug for longer play.

Pros:
color, safe material, comfortable once in.
Cons:
too hard to insert.

somewhat useful review
Overall the Ryder is good, however I usually choose my other anal toys first. The rounded bulb makes it hard to get in compared to cone shaped anal toys, and it usually requires the same team effort between me and my partner as hanging a painting, "nope, a little to the left, now up up. Ok, oops nope too far." With lube Ryder get's pretty slippery so be prepared for the initial struggle. Once the plug is in it does a decent job of staying in, except during vaginal sex, then it pops out pretty easily. Personally, this makes it a better toy for solo play or with oral/manual simulation. However, this isn't a problem for my male partner as it stays in easily for him during intercourse.

On the up side the size and shape is comfortable once in and because of it's smaller size it can be worn longer than larger plugs. My partner likes that there is a little extra room between the bulb and the base than our other plug, so he finds it more comfortable for thrusting and playing with. We like having it on hand for days when you want a little something, but don't need the all out intensity some other anal toys can bring.

The toy is made of 100% silicone, so you can just toss it in the dishwasher and it's safe to go. Just like your silicone bake ware! Because it's so easy to clean and sanitize it's a great little toy for sharing. If you don't have a dishwasher Ryder can be boiled or used with a condom so it's safe for you and your partner. The silicone also makes it smooth, slick, and forgiving. The marbleized color and the compact shape make the Ryder an attractive little plug.

That's weird. I found it easier to insert actually. I was surprised how easy though!

Welcome to EF! Too bad this plug doesn't work all that well for you. We can be the same yet so different! I just love the Ryder, for me it is a warm-up plug for larger plugs and I do use it for solo play sometimes.
For me I consider the Ryder as a stay put plug in that it has never come flying-out during vaginal intercourse, unlike some of my other plugs.
And yes, my b/f also loves it as well.

Too bad you are having a hard time. The Ryder's round tip does make it expand a bit faster than a conical plug.

Welcome to EF.

  • Can we get more toys in Copper?
    • The Ryder in Copper is so pretty. I'd love to see more toys offered in this colour. :) Is that likely to happen at all? I haven't seen it on any other listing. Is this colour discontinued?

Yes, it sure has been discontinued. It was weird - Copper was a slow seller, and we got some feedback from retailers that it wasn't at all popular. Then when we discontinued last Spring it got snapped up pretty quickly. I only have closeouts left, but we're hoping that by discontinuing Copper we'll have more time in the production schedule to pursue other colors.
    • Glow in the dark? That's my favorite color! Maybe something black light reactive?

  • Why should you never use silicone on a silicone toy?
    • Why should you never use silicone on a silicone toy?
    • Some, not all silicone lube will 'stick' to silicone material. I have read that some premium silicone lubes will work with some premium silicone materials. You can try some on the base and see, when I last tried it kinda etched the silicone material. (does that make sense) It left a indentation were the lube was.

That's the basics, Some of the other members can give a more technical answer.
    • Some silicone lubes will bond to some silicones. This seems to be more of an issue the softer the silicone is, so toys like O2 and VixSkin will be more susceptible (makes sense, as the silicone has fewer crosslinks). Quality lubes seem to have less of a problem also, and it is likely that cheaper silicones might have more of a problem.

I have tested quality silicone lube on several quality silicone toys and did not notice a permanent problem, but (a) the toys developed "hives" that lasted for a few hours (was gone the next day) and (b) it's really hard to clean the silicone lube off of the toys, but it can be done. While this is purely subjective, but it seemed that the silicone lube wasn't as "lubey" on silicone toys. I don't use silicone lube on silicone toys anymore - it's just not worth the trouble.

  • Is this going to be in stock soon?
    • If you haven't noticed, I've been going over my wishlist (see the O2 discussion) and I've noticed that this plug that I've wanted forever isn't even in stock. Will it be restocked?
    • That's funny. Two of the toys that I want to purchase are out of stock as well. The Vixen Ryder and Johnny. Then I noticed that several Vixen products are out of stock at the moment. I wonder when all of these toys will be restocked.
