This toy is a great value for the price. Made of silicone, it is non-porous, easily sterilized, and durable, which are good qualities to have in a toy intended for anal use. The material looks and feels great – I have the purple version, and it is a deep, dark color. The material feels slightly soft and springy, but still pleasantly firm and completely smooth.

What really sets Ryder apart from other plugs, though, is the unique shape. Compared to the “classic” tapered pyramid butt plug shape, the tip of Ryder is not tapered and feels more substantial going in, and may be a bit of a challenge for people who are completely new to anal play. Compared to the majority of plugs on the market, the size is medium - probably not ideal for absolute beginners, but satisfying for the casual anal enthusiast. Unlike the classic tapered plug design, the thickness of Ryder is constant through the main part of the plug. For me that wasn’t good or bad; it was just different.

The best part of the design is at the bottom. The shape of the plug where it attaches to the stem is rounded and extremely comfortable, with no sharp ridges or edges. The base is a long narrow rectangle, which is big enough to make the toy safe to use, and small enough to be comfortable for extended use. The ratio of the stem diameter to the plug diameter is sufficient to keep it in place during even intense orgasms, which you may have while using it! The shape results in a feeling of fullness without any sharp edges poking anywhere. Ryder is a well-designed plug made of quality materials, and would be a great choice as an introduction to luxury/premium material toys for people who are curious about them but don’t want to spend a lot of money.

  • Can we get more toys in Copper?
    • The Ryder in Copper is so pretty. I'd love to see more toys offered in this colour. :) Is that likely to happen at all? I haven't seen it on any other listing. Is this colour discontinued?

Yes, it sure has been discontinued. It was weird - Copper was a slow seller, and we got some feedback from retailers that it wasn't at all popular. Then when we discontinued last Spring it got snapped up pretty quickly. I only have closeouts left, but we're hoping that by discontinuing Copper we'll have more time in the production schedule to pursue other colors.
    • Glow in the dark? That's my favorite color! Maybe something black light reactive?

  • Why should you never use silicone on a silicone toy?
    • Why should you never use silicone on a silicone toy?
    • Some, not all silicone lube will 'stick' to silicone material. I have read that some premium silicone lubes will work with some premium silicone materials. You can try some on the base and see, when I last tried it kinda etched the silicone material. (does that make sense) It left a indentation were the lube was.

That's the basics, Some of the other members can give a more technical answer.
    • Some silicone lubes will bond to some silicones. This seems to be more of an issue the softer the silicone is, so toys like O2 and VixSkin will be more susceptible (makes sense, as the silicone has fewer crosslinks). Quality lubes seem to have less of a problem also, and it is likely that cheaper silicones might have more of a problem.

I have tested quality silicone lube on several quality silicone toys and did not notice a permanent problem, but (a) the toys developed "hives" that lasted for a few hours (was gone the next day) and (b) it's really hard to clean the silicone lube off of the toys, but it can be done. While this is purely subjective, but it seemed that the silicone lube wasn't as "lubey" on silicone toys. I don't use silicone lube on silicone toys anymore - it's just not worth the trouble.

  • Is this going to be in stock soon?
    • If you haven't noticed, I've been going over my wishlist (see the O2 discussion) and I've noticed that this plug that I've wanted forever isn't even in stock. Will it be restocked?
    • That's funny. Two of the toys that I want to purchase are out of stock as well. The Vixen Ryder and Johnny. Then I noticed that several Vixen products are out of stock at the moment. I wonder when all of these toys will be restocked.
