The Ryder didn't like my ass
Didn't enjoy this toy much at all. Was really just more work than play. Plus, it felt so weird that it was in no way enjoyable. It was really similar to the time I had a ben wa ball get stuck up my ass. This is a FAIL for me. Sorry to say it...Published: August 15, 2011
Pros:
Materials are safe for body
Cons:
Poor craftmanship, Too much space between bulge and base, Extremely slippery
So to put it nicely, the Ryder didn't like my ass. Was it the shape? Was it the size? Was it the girth? I have no idea. It was painful for me to use, and I personally hated the design of this anal plug altogether.
When first using the Ryder you are going to really want to wash it before hand. I noticed some sort of residue on the plug when I first received it, so I gave it a good scrub down and wash with some toy cleaner before hand. It seemed like just a little dust, so I found it to be nothing to worry about.
You need a good lubricant, but something thinner - this toy is already pretty slippery on it's own. This actually bothered me a lot and it was ridiculously difficult to hold this toy without dropping it. I would go with Pink Water rather than something thick like Maximus. Even Pink Water made this toy super slippery.
One flaw in the design of this toy is the base. It's wide, which keeps it from slipping inside the anus - however, it's TOO wide. This is something I don't say often, but I'll say it now. Definitely a flaw in the design. The plug actually slipped sideways and I had trouble retrieving the toy from my butt crack. (lol I said butt crack!)
The second flaw in the design of this toy is that there is too much room between the bulge and the flare. It's essential for there to be a space, but not too much of a space. Otherwise you feel like you have something lost up in your anus, and to me, that just doesn't feel good. Especially since this plug is one of the taller plugs available.
The third flaw is the seams. The seams on my Ryder were not smoothed down, and although it is silicone, it gave me a scratchy feeling when inserted and I just could not stand it. I sanded it down, but it just made scratches in the silicone and made things feel even worse for me.
To clean the Ryder you can use just about anything you'd like. Antibacterial soap and hot water works best, and I recommend it the most. Also, be sure not to use a silicone based lubricant or you will potentially ruin your toy.

Experience
I hate to be blunt, but you can count on STL to give it to you straight. I HATED this toy, and it definitely isn't one I will recommend to anyone. For the price, the craftmanship was awful. You'd think the company could sand down the seams for you ahead of time so the customer isn't stuck trying to modify the toy on their own. I didn't enjoy the way this toy felt, and the odd base made it really hard to hold the toy. And God forbid the toy turns sideways as you are in doggystyle and you have to peel the toy out of your butt crack.
Follow-up commentary
24 days after original review
After buying another Ryder that was free of seams, I like it a little bit more. Mine still slips sideways during use and that is very annoying, but it feels more comfortable inside now that there are no slightly scratchy seams.

Can we get more toys in Copper?
-
The Ryder in Copper is so pretty. I'd love to see more toys offered in this colour. :) Is that likely to happen at all? I haven't seen it on any other listing. Is this colour discontinued?

Is this colour discontinued?Yes, it sure has been discontinued. It was weird - Copper was a slow seller, and we got some feedback from retailers that it wasn't at all popular. Then when we discontinued last Spring it got snapped up pretty quickly. I only have closeouts left, but we're hoping that by discontinuing Copper we'll have more time in the production schedule to pursue other colors.

Glow in the dark? That's my favorite color! Maybe something black light reactive?

Why should you never use silicone on a silicone toy?

Why should you never use silicone on a silicone toy?

Some, not all silicone lube will 'stick' to silicone material. I have read that some premium silicone lubes will work with some premium silicone materials. You can try some on the base and see, when I last tried it kinda etched the silicone material. (does that make sense) It left a indentation were the lube was.
That's the basics, Some of the other members can give a more technical answer. -
Some silicone lubes will bond to some silicones. This seems to be more of an issue the softer the silicone is, so toys like O2 and VixSkin will be more susceptible (makes sense, as the silicone has fewer crosslinks). Quality lubes seem to have less of a problem also, and it is likely that cheaper silicones might have more of a problem.
I have tested quality silicone lube on several quality silicone toys and did not notice a permanent problem, but (a) the toys developed "hives" that lasted for a few hours (was gone the next day) and (b) it's really hard to clean the silicone lube off of the toys, but it can be done. While this is purely subjective, but it seemed that the silicone lube wasn't as "lubey" on silicone toys. I don't use silicone lube on silicone toys anymore - it's just not worth the trouble.

Is this going to be in stock soon?

If you haven't noticed, I've been going over my wishlist (see the O2 discussion) and I've noticed that this plug that I've wanted forever isn't even in stock. Will it be restocked?
-
That's funny. Two of the toys that I want to purchase are out of stock as well. The Vixen Ryder and Johnny. Then I noticed that several Vixen products are out of stock at the moment. I wonder when all of these toys will be restocked.

Kinda scares me. Hope mine doesn't come with seams.
