The Standard

Ryder will fast become a regular player in your anal toy rotation. Although not big or textured enough to carry the entire show, it is supremely comfortable and easy to care for. This makes Ryder the perfect plug for those who like, love, or are simply testing the water of backdoor endeavors.

Use

Ryder is a middle-of-road type anal plug. A great fit for those that enjoy anal sex, but aren't into anything that stretches or intimidates. Or, alternatively, it makes a great warm-up plug for those intending to move on to more advanced or, shall we say, sizable items like Ringo or A-Bomb.

Material / Texture

Ryder is made of premium silicone, which is Phthalate-free, non-porous and hypo-allergenic. Smooth to the touch, silicone has no irritating seams in the material and contains no rough edges or inconsistencies. It is also quite flexible, with just the right combination of give and firmness. Ryder will bend with your body, but will never lose its shape.

Design / Shape / Size

As a beginner/ intermediate sized plug, Ryder features an ideal design. Its head tapers gently into a small bulb, which slides easily into the anus. With no bumps or ridges along the way, Ryder is meant for staying put. It comes in some attractive colors, and thanks to its discreet size, it travels well.

For those that desire a fuller feeling, however, or even the challenge and stretch of something bigger, Ryder will probably not appeal to you. Though it is a supremely comfortable plug. It's not much else. It's only appeal for experienced anal lovers is as an intro plug, as a tantalizing but short stop on a longer and more substantial ladder.

Performance

Ryder's best feature is, perhaps, the smooth transition from tip to neck. Its curve is so gentle that, for beginners especially, it feels remarkably easy. But as mentioned above, this pro for beginners will certainly prove a con for vets.

Care and Maintenance

Ryder's non-porous silicone composition makes it a breeze to take care of. It is dishwasher safe, and it can also be boiled for sterilization. That said, it's not a bad idea to give it a good cleaning with soap and water before and after use, since the material can attract dust in storage.

Water-based lubricants should be used with this toy. Silicone lube reacts with the toy itself and is therefore incompatible.

Experience

I personally found using Ryder to be enjoyable, but not fulfilling. I kept finding myself craving something bigger. In this way, Ryder became a lot like ice cream to me, metaphorically speaking of course. Ice cream can refresh you, it can satisfy your sweet tooth, it can get you from day to day. That being said, however, sometimes I just want steak.
Follow-up commentary
While still a good experience every time, Ryder has begun to look and feel a bit mundane compared to some of my other anal toys. I have nothing bad to say about it, but nothing too exciting either. Just the natural progression of tastes I guess. Who knows, maybe it will eventually find it's way back into the limelight that is my heart.

What a lovely thorough review! Good job! I love your gentle wit and the fact that it is a very objective review. This might be the plug I've been looking for!

Nice review. I think this is probably a great "warm up" butt plug for apprehensive first timers!

Thank you, great review. I have a little trouble finding middle of the road size plugs. I'll add this to my wish list Winking

While I solely recommend water-based lube with silicone toys as well as you, Tantus has made an exception and states on their website that Pjur Bodyglide is a silicone lubricant that is safe to use with their toys, you just have to do a spot to check for compatibility.

Nice review Yoda. Sorry to hear that you do not enjoy the Ryder anymore. However, it seems to be a great buttplug. Thanks!

  • Can we get more toys in Copper?
    • The Ryder in Copper is so pretty. I'd love to see more toys offered in this colour. :) Is that likely to happen at all? I haven't seen it on any other listing. Is this colour discontinued?

Yes, it sure has been discontinued. It was weird - Copper was a slow seller, and we got some feedback from retailers that it wasn't at all popular. Then when we discontinued last Spring it got snapped up pretty quickly. I only have closeouts left, but we're hoping that by discontinuing Copper we'll have more time in the production schedule to pursue other colors.
    • Glow in the dark? That's my favorite color! Maybe something black light reactive?

  • Why should you never use silicone on a silicone toy?
    • Why should you never use silicone on a silicone toy?
    • Some, not all silicone lube will 'stick' to silicone material. I have read that some premium silicone lubes will work with some premium silicone materials. You can try some on the base and see, when I last tried it kinda etched the silicone material. (does that make sense) It left a indentation were the lube was.

That's the basics, Some of the other members can give a more technical answer.
    • Some silicone lubes will bond to some silicones. This seems to be more of an issue the softer the silicone is, so toys like O2 and VixSkin will be more susceptible (makes sense, as the silicone has fewer crosslinks). Quality lubes seem to have less of a problem also, and it is likely that cheaper silicones might have more of a problem.

I have tested quality silicone lube on several quality silicone toys and did not notice a permanent problem, but (a) the toys developed "hives" that lasted for a few hours (was gone the next day) and (b) it's really hard to clean the silicone lube off of the toys, but it can be done. While this is purely subjective, but it seemed that the silicone lube wasn't as "lubey" on silicone toys. I don't use silicone lube on silicone toys anymore - it's just not worth the trouble.

  • Is this going to be in stock soon?
    • If you haven't noticed, I've been going over my wishlist (see the O2 discussion) and I've noticed that this plug that I've wanted forever isn't even in stock. Will it be restocked?
    • That's funny. Two of the toys that I want to purchase are out of stock as well. The Vixen Ryder and Johnny. Then I noticed that several Vixen products are out of stock at the moment. I wonder when all of these toys will be restocked.
