The cock that couldn't
While the Lone Star looks the part and the outer Vixskin material feels the part, the weight and the solid core keep it from completing it's quest of becoming the perfect realistic dildo out there.Published: July 21, 2008
Pros:
The outer Vixskin material is realistically supple and soft.
Cons:
The dildo is unrealistically solid and heavy.
I thought the Lone Star would be a fairly easy review to write, I expected to be able to try it a few times and then hammer out a review that sung its praises. However, I've had a little bit of trouble and I'm really on the fence.
To start things off on the right foot, I'd like to say that as far as aesthetics go this dildo is King. Its visuals are absolutely stunning, it's by far the most realistic I've ever seen. From its highly contoured shaft down to its wrinkled testicles, it's absolutely convinced me of what the perfect cock should look like. While the caramel color is not nearly as vibrant as shown in pictures, it's still as realistic as you're going to get. However, looks alone cannot carry a toy.
One of the major problems I had with this dildo was the weight. The properties page listed it at a pound but it feels heavier. Unfortunately, the weight is unevenly distributed, with half sitting right in the middle of the cock and the other half at the too narrow plastic base. While for some that wouldn't be a problem, when I held it out horizontally in the palm of my hand it drooped dramatically. The slight curve that it did hold when it was sat on top of my desk disappeared as gravity stretched and pulled the shaft out straight as an arrow.
Another problem was how severely solid it was. I wanted a firm dildo but how solid it was made penetration painful. Whenever I quickly pulled the Lone Star out to thrust back in, its straight shaft jabbed at my opening and pushed its way inside without caution. I could feel my vagina trying it's best to accommodate the pleasurably thick size but the weight of it caused made my muscles to tire quickly. It was so much heavier than a real penis, the weight was unrealistic and not enjoyable. With a real penis there's flexibility, there's softness, and the muscular tissue of a real penis has give to it, this dildo was like a brick and very uncomfortable to use for a prolonged period.
While my issue with its weight and firmness could deter some it didn't deter me. I have used this every day since it arrived hoping to be able to have better experiences with it and while I definitely do love it, the solid core and weight have thrown major obstacles my way. But to leave it's bestial properties alone, I'm going to move onto Vixen Creation's award winning material, Vixskin. When the toy arrived it was cold, giving it more of a silicone feel; however, as it aired out in my bedroom during a recent heatwave it soon mimicked the feel of cyberskin. Vixskin is truly the best of both worlds; you have the soft, velvety feel of cyberskin yet the hygienic qualities of silicone, and best of all it can be boiled to sterilize it.
This is a thick toy and for that I love it. The Lone Star's visuals and the feeling of the Vixskin really set it apart from the rest, but the heavy weight and its rock hard core keep it from becoming the little cock that could.

Experience
I expected the Lone Star to pull double duty. Not only would it serve as my own personal pleasure device but I'd wear it in photos inside of a harness as well. The Lone Star would absolutely not fit inside of the standard sized o-ring, I tried lubing it up but I couldn't get the ring to slide down past mid shaft.
Follow-up commentary
18 days after original review
My first few weeks with this dildo I loved it even though it didn't feel like the right fit for me. However, I've started to appreciate this in a way I didn't think was possible. While I'm not a size queen I do like a thick dildo. I don't mean to throw that term (size queen) around loosely but it's of great importance when it comes to toys. There are some women who shy away from size and for that I say "you rock!"... however, there are also women that seek out the toys that are big, bulky, and packing some serious heat and to them I'd like to offer my condolences. lol. Taking this dildo the first few times proved to be an absolute CHALLENGE for me. It didn't work, the Lone Star's anatomy didn't fit my anatomy. There was major stuffing, pulling, stroking, and excessive amounts of water-based lubricant used. I just couldn't take it comfortably. The first few weeks were agonizingly painful because I desperately wanted it but my body wouldn't let me have it. I do NOT know what has changed between then and now. Maybe it's this southern heat but this dildo transformed overnight. It had to be the dildo because it certainly wasn't me; One morning I woke up with an absolute ache and said "screw it, I'm going to screw it!"... and it went surprisingly well. In fact, it went very well. It was like something clicked and the Lone Star and I were instantly made for one another. The inner core was still excruciatingly stiff but the outside Vixskin was so squishy and movable to the touch. I left it heating up under the tap and when I finally had it snuggled deep inside it felt good. It felt really good, it felt highly comparable to my husband's own cock. To make this even better, I was able to pull on a pair of panties and because of the wide platform base it stayed inside of me. While there was the occasional occurrence of it trying to slip out, all I had to do was pull my panties up higher and tighter and it got right back into position. If you're like me and have a fetish for wearing undergarments while masturbating, this dildo is ABSOLUTELY perfect for the occasion because of it's nice long base. I never once judged this book by it's cover, I knew it held enormous potential (literally) and I was finally fortunate enough to tap into it. This is now my favorite dildo, no other dildo will do. Vixen Creations is at the TOP of the list when it comes to quality dildo makers, they've become a brand I trust and a brand I will continue to go to in the future. I'm happy I was finally able to feel how great it could be, I just wish it had happened a little sooner.

Lone star vs other Vixskin toys
-
I bought a Lone Star recently, and unlike what I've read in most of the reviews... it was very firm for Vixskin.
It was much firmer than the Bandit or Goodfella I have... almost to the point I wondered if the outer layer was just regular Vixen silicone. The outer layer of Bandit and Goodfella is very soft/pliable, but not even close to the case with Lone Star
Has anyone else noticed a drastic difference in firmness between 2 Vixskin toys? -

I returned it due to it being so unpleasantly firm. So I'm still left wondering if I'd like Lone Star, but I'm hesitant to order it again and possibly end up with the same scenario. -
I have Johnny and Lone Star and Lone Star was just a tiny bit firmer than Johnny. It still feels very realistic and is soft enough for me to use regularly without any problems. Sorry to hear that you returned Lone Star :( Lone Star is also a bit larger than both of the toys you mentioned so that may also make him feel a little firmer.

Fantastic review!
Good review. I've been trying to decide whether I like this or the Johnny better - I was already leaning towards the latter, and your comment about how solid the core is on this one pushed me further in Johnny's direction.
