I smell sex and rope bondage!

If I lost this book, I would buy it again! The quality of the book and the information it contains are well worth the price you pay for it. I definitely recommend this book to anyone who is interested in learning the 'ropes' of bondage.

About author

This is the first book about rope bondage (or any bondage, for that matter) that we have ever owned. I check out the Two Knotty Boys' website every other month or so, and admire their work a lot. The authors are Dan and JD and they collectively call themselves Two Knotty Boys. Their writing style is very easy to follow, as well as informative and to the point. They have an expert way of combining education, humor, and insight.

Content / Style / Audience

This book takes you through instructions on how to tie 13 different types of knots both decorative and practical, types of rope that can be used, safety information, basic bondage, decorative bondage, dominance bondage, and sex bondage. There is also a list of suggested reading, a short bio about the authors, and a glossary (because not everyone can speak bondage from the get-go). This book is fantastic for people who are interested in learning about rope bondage and are relatively new to the art. Before we got this book, the only knot I could tie was with my shoe laces. Now, we've both learned to create many different styles of bondage wear. If you are interested in learning the more complex and advanced ways of tying up your partner, like suspension or excessively restrictive bondage, this book probably isn't going to have much you are interested in. Also, all of the pieces you learn to make in this book are easily done in your own home. Other than the rope and a few basic pieces of furniture (a table and a chair with a low back and arms) you won't need any extra or overtly bondage equipment, a St. Andrew's Cross or whipping bench for example. They could have called this book "Rope Bondage for People Who are Usually Idiots at This Sort of Thing", but that's a little wordy. The step-by-step pictures make it easy for just about anyone to learn these knots...I've been thinking of training my cat to tie them.

Design

The layout of this book is pretty straight forward. It begins with the usual types of things like a foreword and acknowledgments section, moves on to an introduction and then you start getting into the good stuff. After you read about safety and rope types you can move into learning how to tie various knots that can help you create your own rope designs or learn the ones from the book more easily and quickly. Then you move into basic rope pieces that can be used by most lovers that enjoy being tied up, like ways to tie a single wrist or ankle to something or how to make a set of rope shackles. Then there is the decorative bondage section, which teaches the reader to use rope to make things that are wearable like a corset, knot bra, and even a rope gauntlet (there are many more, but I don't want to ruin the surprise). In the dominance bondage sections there are a couple of different harnesses, a hog tie, as well as a gag and bridle. Finally, in the sex bondage section you can learn how to tie a harness for a dildo, how to tie your partner to a four legged table, and a couple of positions using an arm chair. The book is a paperback book with a slick, wipe-able cover and a sturdy spine. This book is not discreet. Its obvious this is a rope bondage book if you get within 10 feet of it, so don't leave it on your coffee table unless you are fine with people knowing you have it.

Personal comments

This book taught us everything we know so far about rope bondage. It offers a variety of ways to use your new-found (or existing) interest in using rope on your partner for everything from bras and underwear to shackles made entirely from rope. One of our favorite things is the kneeling in a chair tie-up that you can learn about in the sex bondage section. Something I feel is worth mentioning is that there is only one piece that is shown that is specifically for a man. The rest of them (with the exception of a rope bridle, which is something anyone can wear) are shown on female models. I'm sure some of them can be modified and used on a man. But, if you are a someone that was hoping to build your repertoire of male dominating tie-ups, you will probably need to be aware that most of the ties are used on women, if that makes any difference to you.

Experience

We are not overly mechanical people. It took me most of my elementary school career to get the hang of working mechanical pencils, but I can follow the directions in this book and tie beautiful, strong knots and pieces without it taking hours to figure it out. The directions are concise, even for the most complicated ties. It is an enjoyable, educational piece!
Follow-up commentary
This book is still a handy reference, and I still enjoy browsing through it. It has exceeded my expectations as far as content! We haven't tried everything listed in Two Knotty Boys Showing You the Ropes, but what we have tried has been simple to tie when we follow the instructions as well as comfortable and easily undone. Showing You the Ropes is well worth the money, and if something happened to our copy, I would buy this book again.
