Slightly overrated, but not bad at all

With over 1000 votes, this can easily be the most popular lube on EF. It has an excellent price/value/quantity ratio and will last for some time (the bottle that is, and the lube on you). Aside from its bad taste and some allergy concerns, it's still recommended to give it a try. It can become your go-to lube for regular sex!

Use

This lube is good for all occasions except when you know there will be oral involved. Most of the people call this the anal lube. Just because it's thick? Yeah, but... It's not the safest thing for your butt, you know. I found another lube that bests this, read on to see which.

The consistence of this product allows it to be very versatile. I think it's best used for regular sex with a condom. The ease of use really makes it a winner when you are having sex and you don't wish to bother with silly bottles and pumps that get only a little drop of lube into your hands. Those days are over, Maximus is always ready to roll and the wetness is only an easy pump away.

Allergy concerns include the fact that it's NOT hypoallergenic and contains parabens. If you are wondering what the heck is a paraben, here you go with what can be found on wikipedia. In a nutshell, they are preservatives, and there is a benefit that they have bactericidal and fungicidal properties.

Texture / Consistency / Thickness / Viscosity

This one is runnier than good old baby oils, but is one of the thickest water-based lubes I have tried. It stays where you pump it and it only slides slowly. It has a nice touch, but you can feel its water-based property. It's like the water can stand on its own, separated from the rest of the ingredients. This is a weird thing, I only noticed after prolonged use. It keeps a plain wet, watery track if you worked the lube out over an area. It's not evaporating too fast. Only problem I noticed is that you may become wrinkled! For example, your hands, fingers.

Taste / Aroma

It has an awful taste; I don't recommend it for oral. It's as if you chewed on an antibiotic. The smell is something like a pharmacy smell, or a medical lab smell. However, it's faint and you are not going to feel it during use. Only exception would be during oral when your nose is close to it, but you'll get scared by the taste long before you could smell it in this position.

I'm not a fan of using a lube for oral. I like the original taste and smell of what I'm licking and there is enough wetness already so why bother with a lube? The only occasion this is bad is if you use it for sex but you are adventurous and you'd like to engage in oral during the act. I recommend condom sex with this, when you don't have oral during it anyway. If I need to wear a condom, I don't stop for 'adventurous oral' because I lose my interest down there. Without a condom, this would not be a problem because I'd just get back on the track, but if you lost it in a condom, there is not much turning back, at least not for me.

Performance

This lube can be applied so generously, you don't need to be very economical about it. It lasts surprisingly long for a water-based lube. You stay wet that's for sure. The problem that the consistency changes over time and there is a difference between being wet and being slippery. I didn't need to wash it with water, but a towel or Kleenex is handy. Compared to a silicone lube that leaves you extreme soft, this didn’t have that effect for me. Silicone lubes are much better if you want a silky smooth skin after use.

The not so great part happens interestingly during anal use. There is some irritation, like a warming sensation. In any ways, it's not very pleasant. Maybe this is something that depends on the individual; some may be irritated by it to an extent. I expect my lube to just create a slippery surface and not to cause side effects, especially during anal.
    • Allergy concerns

Packaging

It was wrapped in a transparent plastic bag (possibly by EF’s warehouse employees) to prevent leaking during shipping. It didn’t need it really, as its pump is very secure and firm and does not leak. I like the pump very much; it's so easy to use, and to pump a good amount! It can be locked for travel and unlocked.

The bottle looks big. It's not too discreet because of its size and the writings tell what it is. I use its neck for storing cock rings.

Personal comments

For those that are sensitive in the butt area and don't want to feel any side effects or burn or anything like that, I'd recommend an alternative:[Sliquid organics gel|http://www.edenfantasys.com/sex-lubricants/water-based/sliquid-organics-gel]. It's slightly more expensive, but it feels nicer. The consistency is almost the same.

The side effects must be a reaction to one of the ingredients in the lube. Glad you already found an alternative that doesn't have that problem for you. Another thick lube that is more natural than Maximus is Ride H2O. Thanks for the great review.

    • I know most people absolutely love this lube, but when I try to use it, it feels like my genitals are on fire! Could it be due to the parabens? Any thoughts, or any recommendations for another thicker water-based lubricant?
    • I'm not sure if it's kosher to mention a competitor's product here, but BabeLube is a wonderful water-based lube that's comparable in thickness to Maximus.
    • Maximus is my go-to lube. I have very sensitive skin and have never had a problem with it.

      Positives and opposites I've heard are that it has a natural tasteless feel similar to saliva, and it is a thicker lubricant. Also the pump looks like a great feature that makes this product less messy.

      I would like to try it for myself, and wonder if it is really the go-to lube for me, and for others like me.
    • This is my favorite water-based lube, hands down and without a doubt. It's pretty thick (ideal for backdoor fun). I've fallen asleep with it on my hands and don't wake up with fuzzy or sticky palms (until they get wet, then it reactivates).

      Maximus is my go to lube, rarely use anything else. It is slightly bitter but not bothersome. It is thicker and also works very well for anal. I never feel the need to wash it off unless I overdue in the heat of passion.

    • Does Maximus come in any other size bottles? I feel like 8 oz. would be a lot for me to use before it goes bad. Also, it seems like a big bottle to store somewhere discrete.
    • It really isn't very big - I have mine it a bedside drawer. Maximus is so thick that you don't have to worry about it leaking unless you really press on the bottle. If my mind isn't playing tricks on me, the bottle is about 2-3/4" in diameter and 4-1/2 to 5 inches tall (including pump), and I think it's closer to 4.5

      I think mine's good to 2013 or something (I'm not at home now, but I can check later), so I wouldn't worry about it going bad
