Jenna's Provocateur - Jesse Capelli Cover
Erotic novel

The Michael Bay movie of porn
Great intentions, bad filming. Director Jenna Jameson needs more experience before she tries a high production film like this. Music and acting are great, but I can't help but be distracted by the cuts and lens flares.

Pros
Great music and DVD techincals. Varied cast does a great job
Cons
Film is ruined by bad filming and design
If possible, this is a movie that at the same time is trying way too hard and also not trying hard enough. There is a lot of good here, and what looks to be a lot of good intentions, but the execution is very much lacking. This is the first film directed by pornstar Jenna Jameson herself, and it kind of shows. The best way I can describe it succinctly is that this looks like a film made by Michael Bay, if he stopped making movies about robots and aliens.
The version I reviewed is the Special Edition with one of several covers, each showing one of the films stars. If given the choice between the regular and special editions, don't waste your money on the upgrade. The special edition includes behind the scenes footage and the music. The extra features on disc one are the photo gallery and a few cut masturbation scenes. Really, there's nothing worth your time.
The DVD's formatting and techincals are impressive. Though it is shot “In Film” (They're really proud of this, its on the box in several places) in standard definition fullscreen, the picture quality is still fairly good. Especially for 2005 standards. There are scene breaks that you can seek to at every transition, and each transition is selectable from the chapter select menu. Additionally, there are four different audio tracks. One has the normal blend of music and moaning, two let you choose which of those two to make louder, and there is a fourth track with commentary. I'm not sure why you'd want to watch porn with commentary, but its the thought that counts I guess. The multiple audio tracks and enhanced scene selection are things that I would like to see on more films.
This is a Club Jenna film, which means big names. Included in the film are Ashton Moore, Barrett Blade, Evan Stone, Krystal Steal, Manuel Ferrara, Ben English, Jean Val Jean, Melissa Lauren, McKenzie Lee, Scott Nails, Marco Banderas, Jesse Capelli, Sophia Rossi, and Chanel St. James. There is a good mix of action, starting strong with a fourway, and including two full girl on girl scenes. The talent all gives good performances, and the outfits are very well designed. The set is very beautiful, with setpieces that look like they belong in a museum.
But here's the rub. Good action, good cast, great music by Spout which is unusual for this type of film, and a beautiful set. What ruins it is the filmography and the execution. It looks like amateur hour at a film school in here. Lens flares, slow mo, screen cuts, awkward angles, every cliché and common mistake. The filming distracts from what is going on and removes any sense of flow or cohesion. It moves from slow to fast in the blink of an eye, and there's no telling where its going next. On top of all that, there is a lot of meta (self referencing or self aware) moments. They will show you the camera or leave in the reel count. Moments like these are what I assume to be intentional attempts at being artsy. It comes off as pretentious, and gets in the way. Each scene starts with a vignette(which is nice), and ends with a recap, in case you forgot what it is you just saw. I can tell that director Jenna Jameson wanted you to watch this straight through, marvelling in the glory. I found it hard to pay attention to with the poor filming.
This film has incredibly high production value, but falls apart due to bad design. Its hard to give it such a middling score because of all the good action, but it really didn't feel like a good film. Sorry Jenna, better luck next time.
