Heaven in butt plug form.
There's not much more I can say about the Ryder that hasn't already been said, so I'll just say this: If you're reading this and even slightly thinking about buying the Ryder, do it. It's fabulous and you won't regret you decision.Published: October 28, 2009
Pros:
Silicone, beautiful color, softness makes the base comfortable.
Cons:
If you want to thrust with the Ryder, the base may be too flexible.
The Ryder plug from Tantus: it’s so simple yet it offers so much. There have been so many reviews on the Ryder that almost every aspect of it has been covered, but being such an awesome plug, it never hurts to have another review. I have been eyeing the Ryder even before I was interested in anal play because the deep purple color was so beautiful. People raving about Tantus silicone every five minutes on the forums only made my wanting worse.
After using a smaller plug I was eager to try something bigger, so I decided on the Tantus Ryder. When it arrived I was nothing less than impressed. The softness of the silicone makes this perfect for anal use since the give will allow your ass to adjust quickly. It is, also, incredibly comfortable to wear while sitting down, which is something not all plugs allow. I wouldn’t recommend this to people new to anal play unless they have warmed up with a smaller plug first, but it’s not overly daunting.
When using my Ryder (with water-based lube only, no silicone lube for silicone toys) for the first time I put my Fun Factory Bootie in for about 30 minutes beforehand to assist in relaxing me. However, keep in mind I’m newer to anal play than most, so if you’re more experienced inserting the Ryder directly shouldn’t be a problem.
Once in, the Ryder has serious staying power. With my other plug, I sometimes have problems with it popping out of my ass when doing daily activities, (doing laundry, bending over to get something out of the oven) but with the Ryder that is not a concern. I believe this to be because of two separate factors: 1) the design of the Ryder is simplistic yet amazing and well thought out and 2) the soft and squishy silicone is less likely to be a shock to your ass, thus allowing your ass to not freak out and shoot out the plug. In addition to that, if you’re a person who likes to wear a plug in the car, in the office, or any other place where you will be sitting down, this is the plug for you. The soft, flexible base sits perfectly and never causes any irritation or discomfort.
If you like double penetration, the Ryder works great. I actually had a problem with my other plug and feeling too much pressure during vaginal penetration, but the Ryder doesn’t present this problem at all, possibly because of the softness of the material, even though it is substantially bigger than my other plug.
If you want to sanitize your plug, you can run it through the dishwasher (top rack, no soap), boil it or wipe it down with a 10% bleach solution. I like to wash it well with antibacterial soap and then about once a week give it and all my other silicone toys a bath in the dishwasher.

Follow-up commentary

The Ryder is still one of my go-to plugs for longer wear. I still love it just as much as I did before, but now it has to share its time with other plugs I've also come to like.

Why should you never use silicone on a silicone toy?

Some, not all silicone lube will 'stick' to silicone material. I have read that some premium silicone lubes will work with some premium silicone materials. You can try some on the base and see, when I last tried it kinda etched the silicone material. (does that make sense) It left a indentation were the lube was.
That's the basics, Some of the other members can give a more technical answer. -
Some silicone lubes will bond to some silicones. This seems to be more of an issue the softer the silicone is, so toys like O2 and VixSkin will be more susceptible (makes sense, as the silicone has fewer crosslinks). Quality lubes seem to have less of a problem also, and it is likely that cheaper silicones might have more of a problem.
I have tested quality silicone lube on several quality silicone toys and did not notice a permanent problem, but (a) the toys developed "hives" that lasted for a few hours (was gone the next day) and (b) it's really hard to clean the silicone lube off of the toys, but it can be done. While this is purely subjective, but it seemed that the silicone lube wasn't as "lubey" on silicone toys. I don't use silicone lube on silicone toys anymore - it's just not worth the trouble.

Is this going to be in stock soon?

If you haven't noticed, I've been going over my wishlist (see the O2 discussion) and I've noticed that this plug that I've wanted forever isn't even in stock. Will it be restocked?
-
That's funny. Two of the toys that I want to purchase are out of stock as well. The Vixen Ryder and Johnny. Then I noticed that several Vixen products are out of stock at the moment. I wonder when all of these toys will be restocked.

Thank you for viewing Ryder – butt plug review page!

Great review! This is on my wishlist. I think I need to get it soon.
I need to try this as well.
Good review!
My Ryder just came in the mail and I haven't had a chance to try it out yet... your review makes me ever more excited to play with it!
I have wanted this one for awhile now, but was undecided about the type of butt plug I wanted to try next. I really want a glass one or the new wooden one, but I want to make sure I have a great go-to plug for any occasion. My current plugs just don't have the staying power for long term wear. I'm thinking this will be my next one.
@Maiden: I want glass too, but this one is definitely a keeper. I highly suggest you get it!
This seems like a really great purchase. Thanks for the review!
Very nice review!
