Plugged Paladin

Pleasure aplenty makes it worth Regular Ryding. However, be careful of the risky too-flexible base which can threaten to get drawn inside.
Published: August 25, 2011
Pros:
Easy insertion.
Luscious feel inside.
Cons:
Base too thin and flexible for an anal toy. Threatens to get drawn in all the way.

Use

My anal sex education curriculum has been provided (in order of experience) by, Lelo Bob (butt plug/P-spot), Nexus G-Rider (vibrating plug/P-spot), and Tantus Curve (pegging).

Today class resumes with Tantus Ryder. It is my first true plug. The Bob and G-rider can be used as plugs, but their more direct purpose is prostate massage.

Immediate impressions are that the plug portion of the Ryder is very similar in volume to the G-Rider, but the Ryder's silicone is much more flexible. And it is this flexibility, together with it's shape that make it very easy to insert. First insertion was accomplished without Bob warm-up.

About half an hour after class started, the edges of the base seemed to be causing some chafing.

Material / Texture

Silicone! Lovely, squishy, semi-soft, smooth, silicone. It is squishier than Bob, much more so than G-Rider, it feels immediately sensual once inside. While they are both also silicone toys, Bob takes some manipulation to get a similar feeling. G-Rider provides a different more aggressive experience. Ryder is pure mmmm...luscious.

The base is extremely flexible and soft in your hands, but after sitting for a while, Ryder sucks in a-bit making the base a C-shape, resulting in some jabbing of the edges into soft tissue. Working a little lube on the four corners makes it bearable so far, but we're only about an hour in.

Design / Shape / Size

Ryder's flexibility and shape make it ridiculously easy to insert given its size. Perhaps it isn't quite for the beginner, but I'm not that experienced, and I think I could have started with this plug. The Bob was plenty for first time use, however, I was craving bigger even before the second experience.

The base is almost too soft and flexible, it almost drew up inside. Removal after a little over an hour, required carefully getting fingers underneath what little of the base was still outside the anus, being careful not to push it farther (or all the way) in.

What was causing the continued irritation was some excess material along the edges of the base near the middle below the shaft. It tapers thin and sawingly (word that I just made up). I'm going to try to shave it off and see if that helps.

Performance

The irritation causing, excess material had me end the class session before attempting any thrusting, though I think there will be plenty pleasure to be had in that area.

Ryder's soft, squishy shape has a simple luxurious feel perfect for extended wear, however the longevity of use is thwarted by the imperfections and inadequacies of its base.
    • Easy to use

Care and Maintenance

Never use silicone lube with silicone toys.

Immediately upon arrival, while giving it the first visual inspection out of doors, you could see the dust and pollen being pulled onto it like a magnet. Normal silicone behavior, though a bit more aggressive than any of my other less jelly like silicone toys.

I put the Ryder through an hour soak in anti-bacterial soap and water solution. Immediately after first use (water-based lube), it received an anti-bacterial soap scrubbing followed by 1-hr anti-bacterial soap and water soak.

A quick scrub before each use to remove collected dust particles will be sufficient, followed by routine soaking described above will keep the Ryder plug pleasing for a very long time.
    • Easy to clean
    • Easy to store

Personal comments

It sure would be nice to have one slightly longer and with a rocker base like the G-rider.

that sure is a extra cautious method for cleaning a toy before using it the first time. well, better safe than sorry i suppose.

great review

It's less of a caustion, more of a beginning ritual in the long term care and maintenance of the toy. A fun ritual of getting to know the feel of the toy in anticipation of using it. Thanks for the feedback!

  • Can we get more toys in Copper?
    • The Ryder in Copper is so pretty. I'd love to see more toys offered in this colour. :) Is that likely to happen at all? I haven't seen it on any other listing. Is this colour discontinued?

Yes, it sure has been discontinued. It was weird - Copper was a slow seller, and we got some feedback from retailers that it wasn't at all popular. Then when we discontinued last Spring it got snapped up pretty quickly. I only have closeouts left, but we're hoping that by discontinuing Copper we'll have more time in the production schedule to pursue other colors.
    • Glow in the dark? That's my favorite color! Maybe something black light reactive?

  • Why should you never use silicone on a silicone toy?
    • Why should you never use silicone on a silicone toy?
    • Some, not all silicone lube will 'stick' to silicone material. I have read that some premium silicone lubes will work with some premium silicone materials. You can try some on the base and see, when I last tried it kinda etched the silicone material. (does that make sense) It left a indentation were the lube was.

That's the basics, Some of the other members can give a more technical answer.
    • Some silicone lubes will bond to some silicones. This seems to be more of an issue the softer the silicone is, so toys like O2 and VixSkin will be more susceptible (makes sense, as the silicone has fewer crosslinks). Quality lubes seem to have less of a problem also, and it is likely that cheaper silicones might have more of a problem.

I have tested quality silicone lube on several quality silicone toys and did not notice a permanent problem, but (a) the toys developed "hives" that lasted for a few hours (was gone the next day) and (b) it's really hard to clean the silicone lube off of the toys, but it can be done. While this is purely subjective, but it seemed that the silicone lube wasn't as "lubey" on silicone toys. I don't use silicone lube on silicone toys anymore - it's just not worth the trouble.

  • Is this going to be in stock soon?
    • If you haven't noticed, I've been going over my wishlist (see the O2 discussion) and I've noticed that this plug that I've wanted forever isn't even in stock. Will it be restocked?
    • That's funny. Two of the toys that I want to purchase are out of stock as well. The Vixen Ryder and Johnny. Then I noticed that several Vixen products are out of stock at the moment. I wonder when all of these toys will be restocked.
