So pretty!

If you are looking for a medium-sized plug and have a bit of experience with anal toys - excellent choice. It may even be a decent choice if you are just starting out, but I'd recommend you also pick up a smaller toy. Might be a bit difficult otherwise. It's just barely wide enough that I would not put it in a beginner-friendly category. The purple is really pretty, the silicone is safe, soft and smooth. Pictures really don't do it justice.

Pros:
Safe material, beautiful, perfect and relatively versatile size, stays put, feels great!
Cons:
Would have preferred a slightly more tapered shape.

Use

Use for this is as expected - anally, and will stay put. I do not think you should have any problems with the base, it narrows and then definitely flares out enough to put your mind at ease. The base is long/narrow.

The silicone is really nice. Besides being smooth and beautiful, it's soft with a little bit of give, but definitely rigid enough to go in without much difficulty.

Material / Texture

The silicone is great. No taste and smell, smooth, soft but structured. I don't think it has any room for improvement. I was a little turned off by the pictures of the copper and the black. I chose the purple, and it's really pretty for a sex toy! Marbled, deep and almost a bit of sheen in it.

Design / Shape / Size

I'm going to preface my comments on this saying that I am relatively new to anal play. In hindsight, I should have probably gotten both this and a slightly smaller piece to work up in size with. Hopefully this insight will be good for some people curious about size who have not had anal toys before. This may not be the right one for you if you don't have anything to "warm up" with. It didn't get in without pain for me the first time, even using lube. If you have a little bit of experience and have used slightly smaller toys before, this is a great choice! I don't think there is anything to criticize the Ryder on for what it is - a flawlessly shaped medium-sized plug, with a very safe and comfortable narrow end/safe base. It is not difficult to insert.

Performance

I don't think you can really go wrong with this shape. My only slight criticism is maybe a bit of a more tapered front end. As a "beginner," I think I was a little too ambitious the first time. Go slow! And definitely invest in some good water-based lube. It is constructed really well, no worrying about losing it and probably no worries with it coming out. At least, that is my opinion thus far - a further update might be necessary...

No major negatives. Just take into consideration what you want and need when shopping around. I realize now that no matter how great it is, it probably wasn't the best toy for me to buy first, without also having a smaller one. If you are used to bigger pieces, I think this would be a great one for warming up! The purple color is also really gorgeous.

Care and Maintenance

Silicone is great to clean. Soap and water, boiling...it isn't porous, so it really relieves the worries of your toys carrying around hidden germs that are impossible to clean out. I can't possibly see myself going back to a cheaper, less safe material after this.

As with all silicone toys, avoid silicone lubes. Best to store it wrapped up in a towel or something. You can avoid any issues of lint sticking to your toys then.
    • Easy to clean

Packaging

Box isn't impressive really. Cheap looking clear plastic. But who really cares about the box?

Might not be the prettiest thing to give as a gift, but at least the piece itself is beautiful.

  • Can we get more toys in Copper?
    • The Ryder in Copper is so pretty. I'd love to see more toys offered in this colour. :) Is that likely to happen at all? I haven't seen it on any other listing. Is this colour discontinued?

Yes, it sure has been discontinued. It was weird - Copper was a slow seller, and we got some feedback from retailers that it wasn't at all popular. Then when we discontinued last Spring it got snapped up pretty quickly. I only have closeouts left, but we're hoping that by discontinuing Copper we'll have more time in the production schedule to pursue other colors.
    • Glow in the dark? That's my favorite color! Maybe something black light reactive?

  • Why should you never use silicone on a silicone toy?
    • Why should you never use silicone on a silicone toy?
    • Some, not all silicone lube will 'stick' to silicone material. I have read that some premium silicone lubes will work with some premium silicone materials. You can try some on the base and see, when I last tried it kinda etched the silicone material. (does that make sense) It left a indentation were the lube was.

That's the basics, Some of the other members can give a more technical answer.
    • Some silicone lubes will bond to some silicones. This seems to be more of an issue the softer the silicone is, so toys like O2 and VixSkin will be more susceptible (makes sense, as the silicone has fewer crosslinks). Quality lubes seem to have less of a problem also, and it is likely that cheaper silicones might have more of a problem.

I have tested quality silicone lube on several quality silicone toys and did not notice a permanent problem, but (a) the toys developed "hives" that lasted for a few hours (was gone the next day) and (b) it's really hard to clean the silicone lube off of the toys, but it can be done. While this is purely subjective, but it seemed that the silicone lube wasn't as "lubey" on silicone toys. I don't use silicone lube on silicone toys anymore - it's just not worth the trouble.

  • Is this going to be in stock soon?
    • If you haven't noticed, I've been going over my wishlist (see the O2 discussion) and I've noticed that this plug that I've wanted forever isn't even in stock. Will it be restocked?
    • That's funny. Two of the toys that I want to purchase are out of stock as well. The Vixen Ryder and Johnny. Then I noticed that several Vixen products are out of stock at the moment. I wonder when all of these toys will be restocked.
