LAYA Upon My Sweet Spots

If you're like me and love your clitoral vibrators, then you may want to add this one to your collection. This one is great unless you have been spoiled with higher priced toys. Unfortunately for me, others have ruined this one from being top of my collection list but at the same time, (like every toy) it adds a little variety.
Published: January 15, 2011
Pros:
Powerful,
Range of colors,
Phthalate/Latex free
Cons:
Noisy,
Battery cap comes off easily,
Big gap around cap prevents it even being splash proof
Rating by reviewer:
4
extremely useful review
FIRST IMPRESSIONS:

I’m not exactly sure what attracted me to the LAYAspot but I knew I HAD to have it. I will say, it was more attractive in the pictures so was a little disappointed when it arrived. But like they say – “You shouldn't judge a book by its cover”. It was cheaper than most of the clit vibrators and you usually do get what you pay for. But compared to some of the others around the same price, this one feels cheaply made to me.

MATERIAL & ODOR:

The LAYAspot is made from primarily elastomed with a couple of what appears to be plastic areas and is made by the Fun Factory company in Germany. Due to these materials, this one is non-porous, hypo-allergenic, phthalates and latex free which gains a rating of 8. Either water or silicone based lubricants can be safely used. Unless you're fluid bonded with another user of this toy, I wouldn't recommend sharing as a condom isn't very practical. There was no odor to this toy.

COLORING & TEXTURE:

I decided to get the raspberry and pistachio cause it's a wild color combination and different from anything else I have. The pistachio is nice and bright so it would stand out in a snow storm for sure.

The plastic is very smooth and shiny with a slight sparkly, almost glitter appearance – particularly around the control buttons. Elastomed on the other hand has a matte rubber feel which creates slight drag on the skin.

CONTROLS & SHAPE:

LAYAspot features + and - Elastomed buttons on the top, set into a raspberry patch. These buttons take a reasonable amount of direct pressure to be adjusted so won't be accidentally pressed during usage. The + takes you through 8 levels of steady vibrations before moving into the various patterns. This toy starts on the lowest vibration and will progress to the other levels by either pressing the + each time or constant pressure. At any stage, pressing the - will decrease the intensity. Unfortunately this one doesn't have an instant off but will shut off in a timely manner by constantly holding down the - button. Once you reach the 8th level, the vibrator will continue onto the different patterns below.

1. Slow, drawn out pulses
2. Medium, drawn out pulses
3. Rapid pulses

There is no flexibility at all to this ergonomically designed toy. It is created with an arch on the underside to fit the feminine form beautifully. If you turn the battery cap slightly, the batteries will cause it to pop off. This toy measures 4” from point to point on the underside, 1 1/2” at the widest part, 1 1/4” deep at the nose and weighs 3.8oz with batteries inserted.

NOISE & POWER:

Silent my foot! I don't think this one knows the meaning of quiet. The 1st and 2nd levels have a real rattle to them which seems to settle down a little once you hit the 3rd speed. Then again, it's more likely that the noise of the vibrations just drown out the rattle at the higher speeds.

LAYAspot requires 2 AAA batteries and is happy to accept rechargeables. I never bother to take the batteries out after use unless they are required for another toy. For those who are the same, you'll be happy to know this toy doesn't seem to drain them at all. Inside the battery compartment there is a diagram showing which way in the batteries sit so there's no confusion. The battery cap does tend to turn quite easily as it's just a twist type closure. It features the Fun Factory stamped into the cap.

CLEANING & STORAGE:

Eden says this toy is waterproof but my booklet says splash proof. Even then, I'm very careful not to get it wet near the battery compartment as there is a considerable gap and water does get in. You would wash this with anti-bacterial soap, toy cleaner, toy spray or even wipes. I personally prefer the anti-bacterial wipes to ensure I don't ruin it by getting water in the battery area.

Unfortunately this vibrator is sold without a pouch of any kind. Thanks to another toy's generosity, I was able to pinch one instead of keeping the cheap box. It's not overly large but does take up more room than I was willing to part with. Just a little warning – store your toy away from any odors that you don't want this one to take on as its own. Even in a (Lelo) pouch, LAYAspot has taken on the faint odor of my toy box (lockable cosmetic case).

PACKAGING:

My LAYAspot arrived in the usual Fun Factory cardboard box with two magnetic flaps on the back. On the inside of these flaps is basic information about the company in a few different languages. The front features a clear window which doesn't make this packaging in the least bit discreet. Inside, the vibrator sits snug in molded plastic. Also included is a small sample of TOYFLUID lubricant and an instructions booklet written in a number of languages.

USAGE:

This vibrator was made to meet the female form for clitoral stimulation but could also be used to arouse other erogenous zones such as vaginal opening, anus, nipples etc. Even the guys may be interested in the vibrations this one offers for certain areas. I have only used this one for solo fun but because of the shape, LAYAspot could be used during intercourse or couples foreplay.

EXPERIENCE:

Personally I think I have been spoiled with my collection of clitoral vibrators – the Alia in particular - cause I was somewhat disappointed with this one. Because most of the disappointment comes from the visual aspect, I won't allow this to turn me off Fun Factory products. It does get the job done. My main flaw complaint is in the battery cap. I wish they had of made it a proper screw on cap so it stays on securely. This could have easily turned it into a water proof toy at the same time by simply adding a rubber ring. Being there are 8 levels before you reach the patterns, there should be an intensity to satisfy everyone. I personally use this vibrator on the 3rd and 4th levels – depending on what I require at the that particular time.

I'm giving LAYAspot a rating of 4 stars.
Follow-up commentary
The patterns on this one are ok but the visual aspect does nothing for me. It sits in the display cabinet (not looking pretty) and doesn't really get touched.
Perhaps I have been too spoilt or have too many toys cause I always reach for other toys.

I'm a toy snob!

not sure but we have the Laya and the better than chocolate ( the music ed) both have their good points, but the laya is a little smaller and compact. Both were really well tho and the music seting is fun feature!

So my partner and i decided to check out this site and order a bunch of new items. I just ordered the LAYAspot and it should be here friday! Ehh i cant wait! How does everyone feel about this cute toy?
    • reading the MANY many reviews on the toy will give you a good idea about the overall feelings and consensus of the toys.
    • it's nice that there are so many user submitted reviews on this site. it's so hard to choose a toy, especially an expensive one, with only the manufacturer description.

  • LayaSpot Questions
    • So, I just posted a review of this toy on my blog and and am rereading some reviews here. I am seeing some discrepencies and have a few questions for you.

Some reviewers state that this is a waterproof toy but my instructions clearly state that it is only splashproof. Perhaps the instructions have changed? Maybe Fun Factory decided it wasn't really waterproof? If you have this toy, what did your instructions say?

Furthermore, a few people said that they received silicone based BodyFluid with their LayaSpot but I received their water based lube and, again, my instructions said not to use silicone based lube (I believe, can't find them).

Also, I think it's just me but my Layaspot pretty much smelled god awful when I got it. Anyone else?

Just looking for different experiences with these things..

I've heard that fun factory toys can stink to high heaven, and I have no idea why they would because they're supposed to be 100% silicone. I have other silicone toys and they don't smell at all. Maybe it's not the toy itself but the packaging that surrounds it? Sorry I'm not much help, but the smell that people talk about with FF toys is enough for me to be wary of buying one.

I have since pitched my instructions, but I think mine said splashproof rather than waterproof. I got the Toyfluid (water-based) lube, and mine was smell-free! All of my FF toys have been totally odorless, actually.
