Have Your Cake, But Don't Eat It!

For a pretty darn good hand creme with an amazing scent you can't beat Velveteen hand Creme by Cake Beauty. While it's not the best hand creme out there it is still pretty darn good. If you are sensitive to heavy fragrance you might want to use this sparingly but a little goes an incredibly long way.

extremely useful review
Have you ever smelled a product and had it remind you of an amazing time in your life? I had just that experience when I first smelled the Velveteen hand Creme by Cake Beauty. I have the Raspberry Kiss/Vanilla scent and, to me, it smells like the fairway near the funnel cake kiosks! YUMMY!! When I put it on for the first time Sigel announced that he didn't like the scent since it made him hungry and he was trying not to eat sweets. The product is very well named as it smells just like sweet, delicious cake...but the downside is that is tastes plain awful.

The packaging is sort of plain. It consists of an opaque, squeezable, white plastic sleeve that rests on it's hard plastic lid. The sleeve and lid are recyclable. Printed on the sleeve is just about everything you will ever need to know about the product in both English and French! The look of the package is softly feminine and completely discreet. This is a package you could leave sitting out in a bathroom, bedroom or in your luggage without raising eyebrows.

This is a thick, rich hand creme that really does leave the skin feeling soft, smooth and moisturized as well as perfumed sweetly. I did find that the scent is a bit cloying and very heavy. It doesn't always mix well with other scents you may be wearing.

The amount you can see on my finger is about all you need for both hands, any more and you will be left feeling greasy. If you use it sparingly it will soak into the skin amazingly well and the scent lasts for HOURS!

The ingredients are very straightforward and don't raise any allergy concerns as far as I can see: Water/Eau (Aqua), Glycerin, Cetyl alcohol, Glyceryl stearate, Cetearyl alcohol, Ceteareth-20, Dimethicone, Stearic acid, Althaea officinalis (marchmallow) extract, Milk Lipid, Mangifera indica (Mango) seed butter, Phenoxyethanol, Caprylyl glycol, Sorbic acid, Carbomer, Sodium hydroxide, Tetrasodium EDTA

Obviously this is not meant to be used as a lubricant or internally. It's hand creme! While this does have a bit of a hefty price it lasts forever since just a tiny amount is all you need. Your hands will feel pampered for hours without the need to reapply like some less quality lotions. I use this on my heels, and elbows after I get out of the shower. While it isn't quite as effective as some of the other products I have that are specifically targeted to hard to moisturize foot skin it is effective at keeping my skin soft and crack free. It is also soothing after shaving or after using a pumice stone. The only real drawback is walking around smelling like a birthday party! Not a horrible thing, if you ask me.

The lotion will soak into the skin completely without leaving that icky, heavy, greasy sensation that makes you want to wash it off. I haven't found this to be good for massaging because it soaks in to the skin so well! If you wash dishes, though, you might need to reapply the lotion.
Follow-up commentary
I still LOVE this hand creme but Sigel really, really hates the scent. It is too sweet and makes him hungry. He doesn't say much, however, because it doesn't set off his allergies and it makes my hands so very soft. I use it on my legs, in the winter, after shaving because it stops me from losing essential moisture and breaking out in dermatitis.
