The Bees Are Just Too Damn High!

The Pleasure Petals isn't horrible, but it's not going to work for a lot of people. It's strong, but the Bees are just too damn high! If it was waterproof, it might have bumped up the toys rating. For me, it stands at a solid 3 stars.

Use

Oh no, I wasn't vacuuming! That wouldn't be as loud! I was merely testing out the Pleasure Petals vibe by Nanma Manufacturing. This not-so-little vibe is a traditional shape designed with vaginal penetration in mind. While it doesn't have a specific G-spot tip, the Pleasure Petals can be angled for such stimulation. It can also be used externally to stimulate the clitoris, nipples, and other erogenous zones. This toy is too large to be used comfortably between partners during sex and is probably better suited to solo play or foreplay.

This toy is not really beginner friendly. The Pleasure Petals is too much for someone's first toy in terms of dimensions and texture. This could be a third or fourth toy (ever) for someone, so long as they are looking forward to some length, and texture. Intermediates might find some use for this toy due to its strength and price. More advanced players would be insulted if I suggested this toy for them. There are better quality toys that are both more silent and versatile than the Pleasure Petals.

The Pleasure Petals is not a good candidate for those who live with others or are looking for discretion. Since it's not waterproof, this toy can't be whisked to the shower, so the noise can't even be drowned out by running water. While it is considerably more silent when inside the vagina, this toy sounds like a mini weed whacker outside the body. I dare say that an apartment that shares a wall with you could here this toy going. Unless you live alone with lots of space between you and the next guy, please, move on from this one!

The Pleasure Petals is not designed, nor intended for anal play. It lacks a flared base and while it would take effort to get this size toy lost in your body, the texture makes it an unseemly choice for impromptu anal play.

Material / Texture

I've done a review on a toy remarkably similar to the Pleasure Petals, the Sex in the Shower waterproof vibe. Other than size and waterproofing, the toys have the same feel and texture. They are by different companies, which makes me think one company was "inspired" by the other. Or perhaps Sportsheets and NMC are related in some way and have the same mother company (my preliminary research didn't turn this up, but who knows). The design is exactly the same! Check it out:

What's interesting is that the product page states that the toy is made from plastic, but I think there is some form of coating on the toy. It feels very similar to toys that have PU (polyurethane) coatings (or something similar). Either way, most of these coatings are meant to protect the plastic and make the toy last longer. They are generally phthalate and latex free, two likely causes for allergic reactions for sensitive individuals.

Regardless, the Pleasure Petals ranks as an 8 on the material safety scale. It is non-porous, so bacteria and other baddies can't make a home inside this toy.

There is definite texture on the Pleasure Petals. Here's a picture of it. I purposely angled the toy downward in an attempt for you to be able to see how much the design sticks out of the toy.

The design is very pretty and refreshing on an otherwise plain toy. The designs are not symmetric, so the pattern you see on one side of the toy is different on the other. The flower and vine pattern is quite lovely to see...

But not necessarily feel...

If you are a texture person, you'll probably like the Pleasure Petals. For those who have normal to high sensitivity, this toy will probably be too much if you're not careful. One word of advice: LUBE! Even your natural fluids may not be enough to deal with the texture of this toy, especially if you decide to turn/twist it while it is inside. It is easier to manage with slow, gentle movement that doesn't have a twist. The toy is also rigid and will not yield in any way. So it will stay where you direct it. In general, you have been warned! The texture of this toy is not beginner friendly. More advanced texture people might get something out of this, but there are better quality toys on the market (or glass).

There is no overt odor or taste to the Pleasure Petals.

Design / Shape / Size

Other than the floral pattern and design, the Pleasure Petals is very traditional. The shape is basically phallic with a tapered tip to ease insertion. After the taper, it's basically a cylinder.

The toy is long compared to other toys. The Pleasure Petals is 7 inches long with an insertable length of 6.5 inches. It isn't too girthy though and clocks in at 4 and a quarter inches around its widest point. If you can manage the texture, the length makes the toy a candidate for thrusting. Here's a picture of it compared with some other toys and a pencil:

From left to right: Pencil, Pleasure Petals, Nite Warmer (bleh), and Clitoral Hummer (good toy).

Overall, it's the texture, not the size of the toy that keeps it away from the "beginner" tier. The size of this toy doesn't make it the best candidate for travel, but it can be thrown in a bag or large purse. It does have a bit of heft to it compared to other toys because it take C batteries. It also doesn't hurt to remove the batteries during travel so the Pleasure Petals doesn't accidentally turn on during transit.

Oh yeah, I'm supposed to mention discretion, right? Okay... well, it's best to insert this toy before turning it on. On the lower setting, it's not as loud, at about 2-3 Bees when it's inserted. However, this toy is a solid 4 Bees when outside the body and cranked up high. If you need intense vibrations to orgasm and like some discretion, this isn't going to work.

Functions / Performance / Controls

The Pleasure Petals has simple controls. It has a turn dial at its base. Turn the dial a bit and the toy will turn on its lowest setting. At its lowest setting, the Pleasure Petals is about 2-3 Vrooms. Crank this baby up and you have a solid 4 Vrooms. The intensity of the vibrations increase by how much you turn the dial. The vibrations are standard/continuous.

While I'm not a fan of C batteries, they certainly give this toy power. The vibrations are deep and rumbly. If I turn the Pleasure Petals on high and put it in my hand, I can feel the vibrations go up my forearm. Yes, my forearm. The motor for the toy is located closer toward the base of the toy. The vibrations are stronger in the center/middle of the toy than the tip, but this is negligible considering how strong this thing is. The tapered tip allows for directed clitoral stimulation.

The Pleasure Petals is not waterproof, it is not listed as such on the product page nor does it have the classic O-ring to prevent water from entering the toy. Waterproofing would have redeemed this toy greatly. Then it could have had both power and discretion.

Care and Maintenance

Cleaning this toy can be a bit of a pain since you need to clean around all the designs. Unless you use a condom with this toy, cleaning is a bit of a hassle. You need to keep the battery cage/bottom from being inserted, so the toy can't be left to completely soak (unless you soak it in a manner so only the top half is under water). A soft toothbrush or a gentle cloth will work to take out any debris on the toy. I don't know if the toy is worth all this cleaning, which probably accounts for why I don't use it.

Once clean and dry, the Pleasure Petals can be stored in a pouch or wrapped in a cloth. For long term storage, it is best to remove the batteries.

Both silicone and water based lubricants can be used with the Pleasure Petals.

Packaging

As an Eden freebie, the Pleasure Petals came in a semi-hard plastic sleeve that has Eden's colors and name. The sleeve is reusable and an option for storage, but it does take up space. The packaging is clear, so it is far from discreet. If intending to give this toy as a gift, it would be best to buy a little cloth bag or pouch (but I wouldn't buy this as a gift, so this shouldn't be a thought anyway).

The only form of instructions is a small insert in the battery cage that shows how the batteries should be placed. It's quite minimal, which is generally the case with Eden Freebies.

Personal comments

This toy is "okay." I don't want my toy, or any toy I give to someone to be just "okay." It is a good price, and is one of the better freebies Eden has given out, but this one isn't one I would get as a gift for someone. I would give it away to a close friend and let them know the toy isn't the best.

I'm also not a fan that this toy takes C batteries. I don't know how many people have these batteries at hand compared to, say, AA and AAA batteries. And not to get too sciency, but C batteries are some of the most poorly constructed and designed compared to other batteries. Then again, I prefer rechargeable toys, so perhaps I come off a bit snobbish right about now.

Experience

I will admit:

I dropped this toy when I cranked it up high.

Both the strength of the vibrations and the noise startled me and so the Pleasure Petals took a spill. Don't worry! It fell on a very plushy blanket! Still, you could use this toy as a prank. Just turn it up to full volume by someone's ear. It's probably cruel, but it might be something to remember.

I went a while without using this toy, due to the noise and my lack of desire for it. I finally gave it a shot when my partner insisted on using it on me. He likes the toy more than I do, but I think this is more to do with him liking me using bigger toys (I tend to pick short toys). Which reminds me, if you let a partner use it on you and your vagina is shorter than the toy, make sure they don't go to fast or deep with it. My guy sometimes thinks my vagina is bottomless or something. It is not.
Follow-up commentary
I know this has the vibrations to really do it for some folks, but it was way too loud for me. I gave it away to a roommate who wanted to take it apart for kicks.
