#EdenPrograms - Mentor Program - Mentors

Contributor: Sammi Sammi
The Mentor Program was created to improve the overall quality of participation in the review community. In this program, the more experienced members of our community become teachers, or mentors. These mentors help to educate and advise the newest reviewers joining our community and show them how to become a more experienced and well rounded contributor. Mentors must have a minimum rank of 6.0 and be advanced reviewers.

To join as a mentor, login to your EdenFantasys account and select Mentor Program from the Services Dashboard.

Applying to be a Mentor
A Mentor is a an advanced reviewer who would like to help our new reviewers (students) learn what makes a good review, discover which approach works best when testing and review writing, obtain tips for grammar and spelling checks, and become more experienced contributors. Mentors assist Students in writing useful, readable reviews, edit for content, spelling, and grammar, and offer assistance and suggestions for what the review should contain.

Three criteria must be met to apply. If you haven’t met some of the criteria, you will see them listed in red and the “Join as Mentor” button greyed out.

Once you meet all 3 requirements, you will see a green checkmark next to all of them. At this point you can click on the “Join as Mentor” button.

Specify your areas of expertise. This information will be visible to both students and administrators, and will help guide students to mentors who are strong in their areas of interest. Once you’ve entered this information, click “Submit”.

On the main Mentor Program page, you’ll see your status listed, as well as the date you submitted the request.

An administrator will look over your application. If you’re approved, you’ll receive an email letting you know you’ve been accepted as a mentor. If you’re declined, you can reapply at a later date. You will find out if you’ve been approved or declined within approximately 1 week of submitting your application. Once approved, you will appear on the list of available Mentors in the Student account.

Once you have been approved, login to your EdenFantasys account, and select Mentor Program from the Services Dashboard. Under “My Mentor Program”, you will now see a new list of options. This is where you will see your student requests and also your students and your classes. You have the option to change your status if you do not wish to be available as a mentor, and you can also update your area of expertise.

Accepting a Student
When you login to your account and choose Mentor Program from the dashboard, you will see the number of new student requests you have received. Click “Student requests” to view all requests you have from students.

You will see a list of student requests. You can accept 5 students in a 30 day period (you can have more than 5 students at a time, but you may only accept 5 within 30 days). After you look over your student requests, you can accept a student by clicking “Accept”. This will notify the student that they are now in your class.

The student will show as accepted in your student list.

To view your student classes, click on “My students and classes”.

From here, you can see the number of reviews the student has done with you and the class status. Click on “Manage class” to view the class.

What Activities can a Student Expect in Class?
Once a Mentor takes on a Student, the Student becomes eligible for push assignments. Students can make a list of products they are interested in that are under $30 and have less than 3 reviews (so, 0, 1, or 2 reviews), and send this list to their mentor. The Mentor will contact the administrator (partners@edenfantasys .com or jhallman@edenfantasys.com ) and request the push assignment for their student. Once the administrator creates the push assignment for the student, the student should complete the order like a regular assignment.

After the student receives their assignment and writes their review, they should submit the review to their mentor.

The Mentor will be notified by email every time the Student writes a new review, while the student is in the class. The Mentor will be able to see the submitted reviews and comment on them, and either publish or return to the Student for revisions.

Revisions may include grammar and spelling mistakes as well as content - mentors should never publish student reviews that contain spelling or grammar mistakes.

The Student is able to see the comments left by the Mentor, modify the review, and re-submit to the Mentor. The review will have a label that it was completed in assistance with their Mentor, if it was published by Mentor.

The communication between the Mentor and Student will be performed through the comments directly on the review or via messaging system.

How does a Student Graduate? What Happens if they Don’t Pass?
After the Student completes 2 reviews, the Mentor should make a decision to either graduate or not graduate the student. At this time the Mentor can also request that the Student writes another review. Once a Student is graduated, their service level changes from Basic to Advanced Level if applicable. The Mentor will receive a $25 gift card once the Student (with Basic level) finishes the class with any outcome (graduate or didn’t pass).

Thank you so much! I already knew a lot about it and found out the rest via forums and asking, but this is very helpful! Some of this is not on the Help page, like who exactly to contact for the assignments. So this really helps and lets mentors know what all they need.

Mentors should also be advocates for their students. Mentors can and should be answering questions about all things Eden! Mentors should probably have a good working relationship with staff and feel comfortable approaching them on behalf of their students. This can only help new people feel much more comfortable about asking for help in the appropriate places.

I am back now, and active as I ever was! I am also willing to accept new members under my Mentor Program at any time! I do very well with grammar and punctuation, all while keeping a personality in it!
