Plan B Woes

So remember when I said my boyfriend was visiting?

Yeahhhh, well we were very excited to see each other... we ended up breaking multiple condoms within a 48 hour period. Not because we don't know how to use condoms properly, but because we were THAT excited. Heh.

I decided to take Plan B even though my period had just ended. You never know, right?

Well now it's been two weeks. I keep getting sore breasts and have been spotting off and on. I bled very very lightly about a week after I took it, and I had cramps from hell. I thought I was going to get my period 2 weeks early, but it stopped after about two days.

I also had a yeast infection which started around the day we broke the first condom. I'm attributing that to the fact that the lube we were using had glycerin in it, and because you know... when you haven't had sex in a while, starting up again can cause your vaginal bacteria to rebel. I went to a doctor for the infection, got something similar to monistat, and did that whole routine. Well there's still some light itching even though I finished the treatment.

Are these all normal symptoms? I'm starting to worry... I know the spotting and pain can be normal, but the yeast infection? I don't have any reason to believe either my boyfriend or I have anything in terms of STIs, and I don't THINK I'm pregnant.

Someone wanna calm my nerves? Complain about bad experiences with emergency contraception? Anything?

I haven't had any specific vaginal symptoms due to plan B, but when I've used it, it threw my cycle off for anywhere from 2-6 weeks. It just had to kind of re-regulate itself. It was on and off bleeding/spotting/cram py/bloating/bitchiness for usually the remainder of the cycle I was on, plus the next one. Some people just don't respond well to a hormonal pill like that, and I'm one of them - maybe you are too?

And as far as the yeast infection, if you were given something similar to monistat - was it a cream or insert-able medication? I personally have had no luck with them. I can take the 5 day one and still need Diflucan afterward. It's the only thing that works for me. You could simply still have the yeast infection - are you on antibiotics? That could also be causing it, or causing it to get worse again.

I've personally taken Plan B twice before, and never experienced any side effects. However, at Planned Parenthood they assured me that spotting, cramps and breast tenderness were completely normal side effects, and it could also cause your period to be slightly early or slightly late. But if your period is any more than a week late, that's when you want to see a doctor or take a pregnancy test.

As far as the yeast infection goes, I haven't seen it listed as a side effect for Plan B. It is most likely caused from the reasons you listed, so I wouldn't worry about that unless it appears to be getting worse even with treatment, or just won't go away.

Here are some links I found for you-

Hope that helps! Good luck

The side effects (except for the yeast infection) all sound typical, from having 2 friends tell me the same types of side effects happened to them.

The yeast infection? Probably just coincidental!

Don't stress yourself out too much, and get some rest, drink some water and let your body do what it needs to do to process.

I'm sure you'll be fine. The only time I ever took plan B, it didn't get along with my stomach.

messes me up bad. especially my hormones. I agree that the yeast infection had nothing to do with PLan B.
