When I got pregnant the first time around, I was only 17 years old. I was in high school, and honestly, wasn't "in love" with the guy. So it's not like we had sex on the regular after that. And honestly, I didn't have my first orgasm until after I had my son and was in a new relationship. So during my first pregnancy I had no idea the complications that could come with it.
This pregnancy, I am now happily married with the man I've been with since my son was three months old. My first born is now eight years old. So, pregnancy this time is a whole new experience! Besides having the morning (actually all day) sickness, constant feeling of pain in my hip (I can't even climb in bed anymore without hurting!), this pregnancy has been all around different. It's honestly a bit weird to have a husband who cares and wants what is best for me and the baby with this pregnancy, as with my first, I didn't feel like I had that. It's strange to think that I am due in a few days, and he will actually be at the hospital with me and will help take care of me, the baby and my oldest. It's such a different experience.
But this article is about the sex. I have to say, early on, I didn't want anything to do with sex. The thought of it made me even more nauseous. I didn't have any morning sickness with my first, so to be so sick was odd to me. Once it finally passed, around 3.5 months, I started wanting sex again. And my sex drive got an instant boost. I thought I wanted it a lot before, oh no. I wanted it more than ever. My husband couldn't keep up (I feel sorry for him some nights, I didn't give him a chance to relax after work or anything). It was interesting once we started having to maneuver around the baby belly. I mean, I'm not a skinny girl, I'm a plus sized woman with curves. I realized we would have to change positions and not do some of the ones we liked so much, as it was uncomfortable for me. Don't get me wrong, I love doggy, however didn't think that would be the one I would use the most.
I have to say, I was scared at first to use my Hitachi while pregnant. I thought, "Oh my god, it's too high powered, and too much for the baby to handle!" But after doing some research, there's nothing saying that I can't use it. I don't think I reached orgasm any faster or any slower than normal, but it is definitely weird when you are in the "zone" and then the baby kicks and starts moving! What do you do? Say, "Hey babe, hold on, the baby is kicking" or do you keep going? That's been something I've struggled with the entire time! But, usually, it's just one or two kicks, and then it stops. But afterwards, boy oh boy this baby kicks.
There are also times where penetration is kind of painful. If he is thrusting too hard and hits my cervix, it hurts. So I have learned to arch myself perfectly to avoid such painful hits. Doing this allows me to not stop my husband from what he's doing, so that way we can both enjoy without the mood getting ruined. Otherwise, sex has been fun. Now that I am nearing the end of the pregnancy, I want to have sex all time, and not necessarily for pleasure, but in the hopes that it helps dilate me and bring labor on (and yes, my husband knows this).
What I am afraid of is afterwards. Waiting a minimum of six weeks before having sex again? And then many people have vaginal dryness afterwards - not looking forward to having to use lube! But I think as long as there is enough foreplay, I should be fine. Otherwise, I think I'll need to read some of the reviews on Eden Fantasys to see what would be best. I am also terrified of needing an episiotomy, or even tearing on my own. I've heard stories of girls not having feeling in the vagina after being repaired. I'm too young to need vaginal surgery - so I hope that I don't tear or need to be cut, and if I do, I hope that the doctor has really skilled hands!
I know some people who don't want sex at all during their pregnancies, and that would suck! Both for the woman, but mostly for the man! But bringing a baby into the world is a miracle, no matter how it was conceived, whether natural, donor (eggs or sperm), adoption, IVF, IUF, surrogate, etc. There are many ways to have a baby, and as long as the baby is wanted and in a home that is full of love for him or her, that's all that matters! So if you don't feel like having sex during your pregnancy, it's normal. But if you have a ramped up sex drive, that is also normal. Don't be afraid to have sex like you normally would! Just tell your partner if you feel pain or are uncomfortable.
In ending, sex during pregnancy can be a wonderful feeling. It can be different than sex when you're not pregnant and have stronger or more intense orgasms, but it could be just the same as before. If you have any questions you should definitely consult your doctor, as he/she would be able to tell you if something is not safe for the baby, or if something is wrong.
