Amethyst - dildo by SSA Glass - review by leatherlover

The Amethyst is designed primarily as a g-spot dildo due to its curve. Because it is made out of Pyrex glass, it is very firm which works out well for g-spot stimulation. Also because of it being made out of Pyrex, it is excellent for temperature play. You can change its temperature by running it under either warm or cold water.

It could potentially be used as a double penetration dildo, or it could also be used for anal stimulation. It should be pretty safe for anal play but be sure to maintain a firm dry grip on it or you might lose it. This is due to it not having a flared base and being slick if a lot of lube is used.

This was the first glass toy that my wife and I have tried, and I have to say it was a wonderful success. Being made out of Pyrex glass, it is very smooth and firm while also being odorless, phthalates free, non-porous, and ideal for temperature play. Because of it being Pyrex, it receives a perfect 10 on the Eden Fantasys material safety scale. If you drop it and should it break, it will break into larger pieces rather than small ones.

Being the first glass toy that my wife and I have tried, I really wanted one that was on the smaller side and would allow my wife to become interested in other glass toys. Once again, the Amethyst did not fail or disappoint. Amethyst has what I would call two different sides. The g-spot side is almost 5 inches long from the center ring of the toy along the backside of the curve. It is a smooth shaft of 2 3/8 inch circumference, or 3/4 inch diameter. It has a pronounced head, which is 1 3/8 inch long, a 3 3/8 inch circumference, or 1 1/8 diameter. The other side of the ring has two bulbs and on the end another pronounced head. This side is 3 1/4 inch long. The first two bulbs are almost an inch long each, 3 3/4 inch circumference, and a 1 1/4 diameter. At the end, the head is identical to the other one in dimensions.

Using the curved g-spot end in my wife, I found it very easy to hold the bulbed side and maneuver it. It was comfortable and my hand never slipped.

Overall, the Amethyst was a great purchase. I was able to warm it up under the sink once I got hot water, and it was the perfect temperature for my wife. I quickly added some water based lube, but any sort of lube is compatible with Pyrex. My wife took over at first so she could insert the curved end and get the feeling of the toy, and then I took over. Working with firm pressure and small movements, my wife achieved two wonderful g-spot orgasms, and the best part was that she was not too sensitive after them so we could keep playing. I eventually switched around the toy and tried the other end, but it was not as effective for my wife. I think it was more because she was so aroused but maybe slightly larger bulbs would have worked better at this point. The only other negative about the design is that while the g-spot end is inserted, the Amethyst can rotate around and move off of the g-spot. If this happens, your partner can tell you how to move it so it gets back on the g-spot, or you can pay close attention to how you are holding it, and this isn't too difficult because of the small movements involved.

Also being made out of Pyrex, care is extremely easy with the Amethyst. For a simple cleaning, you can wash it with warm water and anti-bacterial soap which is the method we use. It can also be placed on the top-rack of the dishwasher without soap, boiled for 3 minutes, cleaned with a 10% bleach solution, or you can use a toy cleaner or wipe. Pyrex is a non-porous material, so this allows for sharing between partners or orifices as long as you sterilize it before switching or use a condom on it.

Amethyst also came with its own storage bag which is a very nice touch. While I was storing it before use, I just left it in the storage bag on top of our other bags and it was fine. However, the bag is not padded, so if the bag gets thrown around or dropped, it will not protect the Amethyst. If the toy does get dropped, immediately inspect it for any chips or cracks. If you do see some, please discard the toy since its integrity has been compromised. Also, while doing temperature play, do not submit the toy to extreme temperatures like the freezer straight to the microwave because the Pyrex can crack. Better off, just don't put it in the freezer or microwave, just use water to change the temperature.

Amethyst came to my doorstep with a DVD I purchased in a small cardboard box along with some brown paper for protection. The Amethyst was in a small red un-padded bag with a drawstring on the top. Inside was the Amethyst wrapped in bubble wrap for protection during shipping. Since my wife and I are moving in a few months, we keep all the packing materials and will re-use them for moving.

My wife and I have had this toy for a little over a week, and I was eager to try it out. But between her just coming off of having a UTI and my in-laws visiting, we had to wait to try it. Today we finally got to play with it, and it was a huge success. After warming it up under hot water for a few minutes, I applied a small amount of water based lube and handed it to my wife. She started playing with it to get the feel of the toy and to give me directions on how to use it on her. After a few minutes, I got to play. I was able to give her two very nice g-spot orgasms by just applying firm pressure with some very small quick movements. I did find it was easier to apply pressure by having my wife's hips elevated with our Liberator Wedge. She did experience some of the signs of getting close to squirting, but we were unable to achieve it. Maybe with a little more practice we will, and I will definitely update everyone in my follow up review.

When I told my wife the price of the Amethyst, she said it was a wonderful $18 investment. Due to it being made out of Pyrex, it will last you a lifetime as long as you don't drop it or throw it at someone. When I asked my wife what she would rate the toy, she gave it 4.5 stars. And even though I wish the bulbs were a little bigger, I did purchase a beginner toy so I will rate it 5 stars.
