Repair Hands In Two Days Flat

I wash my hands about every thirty minutes or so. As you might imagine, it's a little rough on my hands. They're dry and cracked and during the winter months start to bleed. Not so pretty! I've tried many a hand creme and every one has a flaw that makes it go straight to the trash. Cake's Milk Made Hand Creme is the perfect harmony of being thin enough to feel great on and thick enough to produce quick results. Am I done looking for The Perfect Hand Creme? I think so!

Use

Cake's Milk Made Velveteen Hand Creme is a moisturizing lotion for your hands. It repairs cracked and dry skin as well as helps to maintain already soft skin. During winter months, it can help prevent the dryness that comes with winds and colder temperatures. If you're like me and wash your hands a lot, this product will be a life saver all year round.

While Cake advertises that they are a paraben free company, you should be sure to check the ingredient listing for sensitivities or allergies.

Texture / Consistency / Thickness / Viscosity

Milk Made Hand Creme is not as thick as a body butter or the regular Cake body mousse. It's not a thin lotion, but rather just the right amount of thickness to coat the hands and not leave a heavy feeling or coating to them once absorbed. If applied in a glob on my hand and turned over, it will not drip or run. Here you can see the product just in a regular glob as well as at a tilt:

When rubbed into the hands and absorbed, the product does not leave a sticky or greasy feeling. You can tell that you have a lotion on your hands for a a few minutes after you apply the product, but this goes away after a short period of time as well.

The product comes out of the tube easily. The tube is squeeze operated and you can squeeze too much if you're not careful.

Taste / Aroma

Milk Made Hand Creme smells exactly like the Milk Made Body Wash only the aroma lasts longer. In case you don't happen to have that, it smells like the Special K Raspberry Cheesecake Snack Bars. Just in case you've never had one of those, it smells like a mix of raspberry and light vanilla cheesecake. The Milk Made scent is delicious smelling. It's a sweet bakery like scent. The vanilla is present but not as strong as the raspberry.

The aroma is strong and long lasting. I get migraines and the Milk Made scent does not seem to set them off. However, everyone's migraines are different and I cannot promise that this will not set everyone off as the scent is stronger than many hand cremes I have tried. If you are sensitive to sweet scents, you may want to pass on this. If I apply this around 5am I can still smell it on my hands around noon. If I apply it before bed, when I wake up the smell is still there. While it is not as strong as it was when I first applied it, the scent is still noticeable many hours after application.

Performance

The moisturizing properties of this hand creme last for hours. I'm one to apply hand creme every hour or so (if I like the hand creme). I decided to test how long I could go without reapplying this creme. Answer? Around five or six hours before my hands started to feel dry enough for me to really feel the urge to reapply. As mentioned, the scent is also very long lasting.

I wash my hands constantly. I'm a huge germ-a-phobe, especially in winter, and my hands are so dry that they crack and bleed. I have tried many hand cremes and find something wrong with all of them. The Milk Made creme was flawless. It repaired my very damaged hands in two days flat. I wish I would have thought to take before and after pictures of my hands so you could see the difference this product made in my hands. My hands have gone from unsightly to soft and smooth. The scent is divine and the product doesn't make my hands feel disgusting once I apply it. I can also wipe my hands on black pants directly after applying this without leaving white reside on my pants (I don't know if that's an issue for anyone else, but since I wear black suits for work a lot it's a big issue for me). Best of all, I need less than a pea sized amount to cover both of my hands, so this product will last a long time.

What didn't I like? Literally nothing. I have tried for over a week to think of something to come on here and say I didn't like about this product and I can't think of a single thing. It has worked wonders and smells great while doing it. If I could bottle this in a perfume I would.

Packaging

As with all Cake products, the packaging is girly and adorable. The front says "Cake Milk Made Velveteen Hand Creme" in English and French (since they're based in Canada). It has a little blurb about the product, also in English and French that's done in lots of different fonts. It's all in a very spring-y pink, white, and green pastel color scheme. The back has the ingredient listing and information on how to contact the company. It also says that the product is paraben free.

You get 100ml or 3.4 fl oz of product in the tube. Considering the small amount of product that you need to use, this should last a lifetime.

Special Features

The ingredients are:

Water, Glycerin, Cetyl Alcohol, Glyceryl Stearate, Cetearyl Alcohol, Ceteareth-20, Dimethicone, Stearic Acid, Althea Officinalis (Marshmallow) Extract, Milk Lipid, Mangifera Indica (Mango) Seed Butter, Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea Butter), Phenoxyethanol, Caprylyl Glycol, Sorbic Acid, Parfum (Fragrance), Carbomer, Sodium Hydroxide, Tetrasodium EDTA

Some more information on what all that means:

Glycerin - Colorless, odorless liquid. Used to improve smoothness.

Cetyl Alcohol - A fatty alcohol. Used as thickening agent.

Glyceryl Stearate - Wax like solid. Acts as lubricant on skin's surface.

Cetearyl Alcohol - Mixture of fatty alcohols. Gives emollient feel to skin.

Ceteareth-20 - Made from cetearyl alcohol. Used to decrease thickness of liquid.

Dimethicone - Silicone.

Stearic Acid - Saturated fatty acid. Softening agent.

Phenoxyethanol - A glycol ether. Preservative.

Caprylyl Glycol - Can be plant derived or synthetic. Preservative.

Sorbic Acid - Natural organic compound. Preservative.

Carbomer - A series of polymers primarily made from acrylic acid. Helps to keep oil and liquid from separating.

Sodium Hydroxide - A caustic metallic base. Potential irritant.

Tetrasodium EDTA - A chelating agent. Used to decrease reactivity of metal ions.

My personal comments on that are that for a company that has "PARABEN FREE" plastered all over their products and website, that's a heck of a lot of chemicals that I had to look up to know what the heck they were and still cannot pronounce. I do tend to prefer more natural products. However, the more natural products I have used do not work as well, so I guess you can decide which is more important to you. The ingredients bother me less on my hands than they do on, say, a feminine wash.

Personal comments

If you have dry or chapped hands, you need this creme. Winter is upon us and there is no time harder on the hands. Even in summer, hand creme is essential for keeping soft, smooth hands. Who doesn't love soft hands? If you already are blessed with soft hands, I'm sure this can't hurt and may even make them softer (in which case I'm really jealous). Unless you have a serious allergy to the ingredients, I would grab this product up.

Experience

I am in love with all things Cake. I have gone through so many hand cremes trying to find something that worked well for my hands and didn't drive me nuts. I could find a good, thick creme that worked wonders, but the feeling it would leave on my hands felt yucky. I could find a lighter creme that felt nice on my hands, but didn't do anything to relieve my bleeding and chapped skin. The Milk Made creme is the prefect blend of two worlds. It's light enough not to feel gross but heavy enough to actually work. The fact that it smells good is just icing on the cake (ha ha). I actually stocked up on this and now have two in the Milk Made and one in the UnSweet - one for by my bed, one for work, and one for my bathroom. I even have a travel size one that came with the Jet Set kit for my purse. Soft, smooth hands in two days?! I can't even gush enough about this product!
