Hypercompetitive people make bad partners

Hypercompetitive people may be winners in sports or business, but they're often losers in the world of relationships. Or, rather, their partners end up losing. A study by Dr. Richard M. Ryckman of the University of Maine finds that men and women who need to be right, seek constant reassurance, and show little understanding or appreciation for another's needs end up in relationships that are filled with conflict and emotional pain.

The study, published in the Journal of Social and Clinical Psychology, also found that hypercompetitive people were less able to communicate honestly and were more possessive than less-competitive individuals.
