Is "baby talk" during a porn scene a turn on or a turn off?

Contributor: Selective Sensualist Selective Sensualist
My husband and I recently watched some porn together. In one of the scenes, the actress "baby talked" and whined (almost like a little girl crying) throughout much of the scene. I found it to be EXTREMELY annoying, as did my husband. It actually ruined the scene (and the mood) for us.

In addition to being annoyed, my husband also said the baby talk and whining made him feel like a rapist (I think he actually meant a pedophile). He essentially viewed the scene as a break in the action and he took the opportunity to head to the kitchen for a drink and a snack.

Oh, and an additional thing the actress did that annoyed me to no end was that she kept looking at the camera during the scene, even holding the gaze at times for several long moments. Her scene was at the very end of the movie, which had successfully been filmed up to that point (save for one brief slip earlier) with the actors/actresses pretending the camera was not present. It was painfully obvious that she was less involved in the action with her partner and was instead focused solely on putting on a show for the camera. (And, yes, I realize that porn stars are paid to have sex and may not necessarily be in to it, but most of them do a good job of making it believable). But that is kind of an aside and not part of the poll . . . though I'd love to hear comments about this, too.

I wondered why the director did not re-cut the scene and ask the actress not to baby talk and whine so much, but then I thought that there actually must be an audience for this since people have different tastes.

What do you think? Is baby talk and little girl whining a turn on or a turn off? The voting is private, but if you don't mind sharing your views, I'd love to hear your reasons why you chose your answer!

It's definitely a turn off.

Are you kidding? It's absolutely a turn on.

I'm indifferent. It does not affect me one way or another.

I'll admit, I do watch porn once in a while, and I don't mind some of it that I watch, but alot of times I turn into a sort of an overly cynical "Porn-critic" when I do watch it. And that in turn kind of kills the mood.

While I've never watched a porn where the girl started whining and baby talking, I'm fairly sure that'd irritate me *alot*. Then again, alot of things irritate me in some porn videos/films.

For example, I too *cannot stand* when the people look at the camera. I don't know what it is, I guess it just seems like it's 'breaking the fourth wall' but not in a good or creative way. I love acting (mainly on a stage) and to me the camera/audience is supposed to be 'invisible' and looking in on things that are happening (I even have a hard time looking at the camera when making video reviews, because of this reason).

Also, as mentioned by Alicia, I also can't stand when they do the "Oh yah! Oh yah!" thing. Albeit, I do get loud when I'm in the throes of passion, but the way the actresses usually say it just gets on my nerves, and for some reason I can't help but feel like they're trying too hard and butchering the English language in the process, lol. Not to mention they sound like seagulls.

And those are just a couple examples, sometimes I'll sit there and think, "Good grief, whoever suggested this music for it should be hanged! *Hanged I say!!!*", or "Their lighting or set crews must've been on something strong *and* drunk at the same time when getting things ready to film" or, "Oh come on! They're totally faking it! WTF, Mr. Director, tell them to actually *act* for crying out loud!" Lol

I really have no idea! I would have to see it to be able to say whether or not it disturbs me. I guess if its the same kind of baby talk I do when I talk to my pet or to a child then it would be a total turn off.

I wouldn't watch it for long. It's a turn off for me....but most of the dialogues are boring for me anyway.

Sounds like a huge turn off to me, but I don't watch much porn. I much prefer written erotica.

Same, but ugh. Baby talk, blah.

Also, I hate when the girl just stares at the girl and moans half-assedly. It's just like DAMMMNIT, I could do better than you.

Thanks for the votes on the poll, everyone! If anyone DOES like this kind of thing, I was hoping they could explain the appeal.

To clarify, in the scene I am describing, the actress starts talking in an affected little girl voice while talking dirty. She also whines, which escalates to where she actually sounds like she is crying. My husband said it sounds like she is sobbing while describing how her beloved doggie just got run over. This is while they are having sex and she is supposedly expressing enjoyment.

some people enjoy age play, I don't like anything where someone is acting pre-pubescent or infantile.

(Ok I ramble a bit here, but here are my two cents about noises during arousal -- so this isn't applicable to intentional child-like / whining speech)

I'm not sure I know exactly what types of noises you're talking about, but I've definitely heard vocal noises from women in porn that sound "childish" or like "whining." I don't think of it as child-like or whining, though, because to me a lot of the tone/pitch seems to come from the shape of the mouth when speaking/moaning/whate ver.

Some people squint their eyes when they're aroused/having sex/getting off/whatever. That won't usually change your mouth shape. Go ahead, try it. Squint your eyes or furrow your brow (if that's something you do when you're aroused) and say something sex-related ("Oh yes, that feels so good").

Other people might scrunch their mouth together when they're aroused. Instead of a higher face contraction, they contract the lower part of their face. Maybe it's a teeth-gritting thing, or a pursed lip look, whatever it is, they're changing how their mouth looks. When you talk with that kind of facial expression, your voice can sound different. With a smaller mouth opening, pouted lips, etc., maybe the words that come out sound a little higher pitched, less throaty/breathy, and more childish.

Some folks might *try* to sound whiny/childish, and that's their thing. But I think other people might not be trying, and it's just a consequence of what they instinctively *do* when they're aroused.

Oh, I was referring to intentional child-like and whining speech, not just sounds made during arousal/orgasm. She even talked that way while they were changing positions and she wasn't exactly in the throes of ecstasy (though she also talked that way during sex). My husband thought she sounded like she was three years old, which, to him, was a total turn-off. I must admit that I found it to be extremely annoying.

But some people may really like this. I was just wondering how many actually do like this kink. I posted an anonymous poll because most people might not want to openly admit they like this sort of thing for fear of being labeled a pedophile (which my husband said it made him feel like just hearing it and watching it -- so much so that he left the room). But this is not to say that liking an adult woman to talk like an extremely young child makes one a pedophile -- I'm not implying that at all. Again, I was just curious to know how many people actually find it sexy. I know it is quite the rage in Japanese porn.

I am mostly indifferent, but I can understand why you'd find it annoying, cause it sounded so by the way you described it .

It's bad enough when some porn stars make really irritating fake grunts or squeals, so we can't imagine how awful the baby talk must have been!

The only thing that comes to mind is a bad version of the lyrics from the Police - "goo-goo-goo....ga-ga- ga"! LOL

What I hate more than that is the same sound over and over again, especially if she sounds bored. I much prefer the sound on, but obnoxious noises will totally kill an otherwise good scene.

Yeah, this is exactly how I feel. Almost any words or sounds, repeated over and over nonstop for ten minutes is extremely annoying.

I'd turn it off immediately and without hestitation. Then again, I don't really watch professional porn anyway. Regardless of the scene, I almost invariably hate the audio. I usually get the most annoyed by the male actors trying to sound macho or dominating, but I also get annoyed by the female actors who are trying to *sound* sexy.

I'm sorry, but I'm an acousticophile, and I can instantly tell the difference between someone who has a sexy voice and someone who is *TRYING* to sound sexy. It's like the difference between a comedian who is funny and a comedian who is trying to be funny. Like Yoda always says: do or do not; there is no try...

I love to listen to people fucking, but I really see no need for talking at all. I would much prefer listening to moans, groans or screams and the occasional "harder, faster" or whatever.
