Dear advanced shibari lovers, do you think that the available ropes are fine enough for practicing such a fine art? Or do you obtain other sorts elsewhere?

What kind of rope to get? :)

If you're going to be doing it professionally or showing off, some people swear by hemp. I don't personally like it, but I'm not a "connoisseur". For beginners, I usually recommend the larger-diameter nylon rope (found at Home Depot) because it unties easily and doesn't tend to slip. If you're a bit more advanced, ropes of smaller diameter will be just fine: like cotton, nylon, silk or silk blend, or hemp.

I find silk the best, because it isn't harsh and painful, and it is still reliable.
