Pixie (that's me) and her wolfie (my boyfriend) are both switches, into petplay, and have mutually symbolically collared one another. My collar, because I have skin issues with both leather AND metal, is a canvas dog collar, super comfy, I wear it as often as I can. Wolfie's collar, on the other hand, is leather with rectangular studs and an O-ring, and has a locking mechanism. We've been dating for about a year now, and about three months ago I finally got the courage to collar him, having had him collar me soon after we started dating. Sadly, over the course of a few years' non-use, his collar has fallen into disrepair and is no longer comfortable... or fixable. Now I'm looking for a new collar, and would like some advice on which to pick.
Some background info: Wolfie used to have a spiked collar, but it was confiscated at a concert and he never got it back. I think he misses it more than he lets on. However, if I get him a collar with spikes, I'm afraid I'll lose an eye in the middle of the night, because his neck is about where my face lands. I'm not sure how he feels about having more than one O-ring on his collar, which the second choice claims to have (pictures show only one) and since I want his new collar to be a surprise, I don't know how to go about asking. Also, if we go with the second choice, there is the option to get matching wrist and ankle cuffs later on :P
Other collars exist on this site, I know, and suggestions would be great! Just bear in mind, he doesn't like a lot of ornateness on his throat. My collar is perfect for me... Now I need assistance picking out the perfect one to surprise him with. Please help!

P.S.: He doesn't like The Collar Factory. He had a collar from there that died within a year, and he's not a heavy player and usually takes pretty good care of his leather. Been there, done that, don't mention it ;)

I ordered the Locking collar, and it's thick, and heavy and was much too large for my neck (check the measurements if he has a slender neck). It's a beautiful collar though, and I have no doubt that it will last forever. If I were you and I knew it would fit him, I would go with that one, it's awesome and much more of an everyday collar.

Thanks, Lucidity! Wolfie's last collar was I believe an 18" fit when he wore it, much thicker than my 14" ^^;; Does that sound like it should fit?

I like the X-tree a bit more. I don't think it would take many adjustments to your sleeping habits to keep it from poking you. The spikes don't look like they stick out enough to worry about your eyes.

I voted for the locking collar for practicality, but if you have enough money in the future, I would buy him the other one as well, for special occasions or going out. If he liked the spiked collar he had, I would say it would make a great gift for him. I have several collars. One is for every day use and it plain and comfortable. The others are for different types of play, and different looks. The first collar he bought me was a beautiful hand made leather one that locks, but it is just too uncomfortable to wear for long periods of time.

I have the second, and it's a wonderful collar. I honestly wouldn't worry too much about the first in terms of poking your eye out, but it could happen, so the safest bet is to go with the second. And truly, it's a great collar, my submissive loves it.

My Man, although he would never be collared, has a 19 inch circumference neck. It would be more difficult to find a collar for a more muscular or larger man or woman. I believe the X Tree only goes up to a 17 inch fit circumference. The other collar is 20 inches long, but it doesn't say what the largest fit is.
You don't want it too small.
The locking collar is thick, so it would be good if he has a longer neck. Measurement when buying wearable goods is always a great idea.

I think that you should go with what he likes. Personally I prefer the lock collar but if he misses his spike collar that he loved then I think you should go that route and just be careful of your face...

Locking is great, plus the spikes on the other one can become impractical and uncomfortable, especially if you intend to wear this more often than just a play collar in bed.
