I did truly love Ben's bumbling nervousness at being seduced by a very forward woman. I could really relate to the nervousness, as I, too, get anxious quickly.

I like Penelope Cruz in some things, but when it's so obvious that the only point she has in being there is sex appeal it gets old real fast, and that's pretty much the only reason she was in that movie that I can think of.

That is so great of AMC they should do this with all kid movies.

yeah, it is great for many types of people, I don't handle theaters very well so its cool for me as well.

Exactly! Like I said, she really served no purpose other than to try to be sexy and irritating.

What I liked about the movie, especially considering I watched it in a film theory class, was all of the visual metaphors and devices throughout the film. I'm a sucker for the deep artistic stuff.

I agree. I thought she was kind of an odd fit for the movie.

And I couldn't figure out if she was really Blackbeard's daughter or not.

I liked the movie alot. The first time I saw all of it was in highs school for a class. Yes for a class not sure it if was English class or AP art history. They were thought by the same professor.

I know we discuss camera angles. LIke the shot between Mrs. Robison's leg.

I don't think she was. I think she was just playing it for everything it was worth since she had found somebody who was willing to treat her how a daughter should be treated and wanted to hold on as hard as she could.

Hehehe exactly. Water was one of the most COMMON metaphors throughout the film. If you haven't seen it yet, watch for any water scenes. It's a metaphoric barrier between him and people (and the rest of the world). It's him feeling detached and outside everyone else's reality.

I loved the scene where Ben tells the daughter about who the affair was really with and Mr's Robinsons head peeks through the door, she locks eyes with her mom and looks back at Ben and they go out of focus and back in, it was brilliant!

I thought she was trying to use him for personal gain. At least that's what she told Jack at some point...unless I misunderstood.

She did tell him that and she definitely started that way. I don't believe she was actually his daughter, but I do believe she was playing both sides.

I am happy that they did a Cars 2. I have a cousin who has a lil boy and he and his son went to visit a another cousins that I was staying at. The lil boy said bleh, blidh, bloo, clye something that we had no ideas what he was saying and he ended it with cars. Turns out he was saying can we watch Cars. Lol. He even brought the movie with him. He was all about cars. He is now I think 7, he obviously talks now but it was so cute how the only audible word was cars. I am sure he too is also excited by Cars 2. I am now so wanting to see cars 1

I'm SO glad to see other people notice those details! THAT is what makes a movie for me. Interesting plot, realistic character personalities and development, and meaningful cinematography. I think that's why I hate so many more recent movies. They're all about sex, expensive CGI, and explosions. Ugh. Lazy and empty-headed. It's become like mindless TV to me.

me too, I also really hated Mr.Robinson near the end, and I never understood what he was pissed about, his wife is the one who seduced him, its not his fault you are getting a divorce. Me and dh discussed it and we think he knew she screwed around but it was the scandal and publicity that he was pissed about and why he was divorcing.
