Remember the adage; "Keep it SIMPLE, stupid" and you'll rarely go wrong. I think new writers forget that their audience is blind, deaf and sensory deprived. So they skimp on the description to get to the "action". I suggest ... more
That's a very good way to put it!

Well it gets the burning ideas down on paper and then you can sort of build the rest of the story around the action. I call it writing from where the action is!

Great Idea and suggestion. Kind of like the story starts.

OK, writers, I'm out for the moment. I have to run over to the seafood market to pick up dinner. I'll be back if I can.

My oldest has always been interested in writing...it's great since spelling is one of her personal demons (having a merit speller for a Mom can be evil when she is home schooling you!) but she has come so far and I expect she will make it a career. She has drawn her confidence from the fact that I write all the time around her. Knowing that I also read classical literature has allowed her to express an interest and not face ridicule. That is so important I think...

The problem is the unfamiliar word choices and archaic verbs he used.
But I think that is part of what makes Shakespeare so awesome. It's not a mamby pamby book you can pick up and read in one sitting. He makes you think and pick up and dictionary.

OOOOOOOH I am officially jealous now. Sigel is allergic to seafood so it's rare around my house!

Exactly! That is the whole idea...if we get advanced enough we can even have a sort of "story middle" were we set the scene, add in the story middle, and then wrap it all up!

Yup! I don't mind late comers. So tell me what are you most interested in learning about or improving your skills at? Or are you a reader who might like to see something different tackled by the writers?

Yup, they actually make a Shakespearean dictionary and thesarus. When you take higher level literature classes you actually need one. That's when they take out scalpels and dissect the plays and sonnets line by line.

Lol. My problem is moving past an idea and an writing a whole story. I haven't been writing as much as I used to, sadly. So, I will sit down to write, write a few pages, and put it aside.

For now, I wanna be the weird kid in the corner at the orgy, just reading everyone elses stuff.

LOL That is fine too! I have found that writing short stories can help in getting past the block to longer pieces. Sometimes I will write several short stories and then combine them into a longer piece.

I liked that one as well...she indicated she might clean and tighten it up a bit and I'm looking forward to that. It has amazing potential and a crazy twist at the end that was particularly interesting

That's what I'm doing right now, I have something that's about 40k words but I'm blocked for the moment. So I've been trying to write short things on my blog to help open me up.

OH before I forget do we have any writing prompts for next month? It's October so it's sort of fertile for supernatural fiction, non-fiction accounts of seasons changing, erotic accounts of seasons changing () and even Halloween/Samhain!

What about something around Halloween and costume parties? It seems that people really let themselves be wild when it comes to costumes. It could be an erotic encounter relating to a Halloween party.

Not sure where to go with it, just thinking out loud.
