Do you think being too small is better than having to slowly work to have a toy fit?

Definitely the smaller version! If you're a beginner, it'd suck to get something too large. Go with the smaller one and if you feel you could handle the large, then you can always pick it up too. But to get one that's too large to use comfortably would just be disappointing.

None of both I'd say. Beads are not a good training toy for beginners. I'd generally recommend to start with small dildos and plugs.
