I spent the entire summer of my 17th year of life having one fling after another. I had just broke up with a boyfriend of a little over a year, and I just wanted to have fun without any strings.

I've had a few, while still in an Open Relationship with My Man.
To me, a "fling" is an intense, but short term (less than a year) relationship that may revolve around sex, but includes really liking the other person. Circumstances usually end it after a few weeks or months. At least, that's how it worked for me. Not one to have one night stands.
One of the men I had a really nice fling with moved back to the East coast and changed schools so we never got to see each other again. We tried to stay in touch, but without being together, it fizzled. It lasted about a semester in college.

I think a fling is a small relationship. Unofficial (or maybe official, just didn't last long). For instance, my first year of high school i was with a guy for 3 years. We broke up a few times and during those times i had a few official relationships that didn't last more than a week.

I was in Germany at the Goethe-Institute language school. In my class I met a charming and beautiful young South American girl. It was an intense summer romance. We were married fifteen months later.
Our marriage was rather... how should I put It, tumultuous to say the least. Sadly she died of cancer a year ago last June. Even though she drove me crazy, I miss her still and probably always will.

my boyfriend and I originally started out as a fling. We were friends and one day we just confided in each other our kinky fantasies and we planned a friends with benefits thing...but before we even did anything, we just spent a lot of time together and next thing, we're dating. Never. My partner and I were discussing things similar to this tonight. We were talking about the trends of open relationships and the infedelity stuff being almost like a trend now days. I told him I must just be old fashioned because I could never even think about things like flings or anything like that. He thankfully agreed. Lol
