Strange Sex Myths

Contributor: Tori Rebel Tori Rebel
We've all heard them - sex myths and old wives tales on how to have sex, how not to have sex, and how not to end up with negative results (pregnancy, std's, etc.). While it's sad that some people believed them in the past, and that some still do buy into some of them sometimes, there are a few I find funny. Namely, that women at one time believed you could avoid getting pregnant by jumping up and down after sex. What are the best or strangest that you've heard?

I remember hearing something about you can't get preggers at all having sex in a swimming pool due to the chlorine killing the sperm. Haha, yeah right. Might damage and kill a few, but it only takes one....

and who knows what would happen to the person if they were pre-conceptually chlorined!

I have heard that if a condom breaks that you should do exercise, because the sperm would have to work *so* much harder to swim and fertilize the egg. LMAO! Silliest thing ever.

Last night, one of my guy friends said he would never have anal sex. I was kinda surprised, because that seems to be something that many men fantasize about (with the ass being tighter and able to be cummed all up in). I asked him why, and this was his response: "Well, girls say it hurts a lot when they lose their virginity 'cause their vagina rips. I think it'd hurt even more to have your asshole rip!"

He and some other guys then proceeded to comment on how much it would hurt to have your asshole rip when breaking your "anal cherry." They said that it would be "the worst party foul ever." Yes, they called it a party foul. And yes, they were slightly drunk

Well I don't know if this is really a sex myth..but it was really wrong info given to me by my high school health teacher.

She told us that a woman can only get pregnant the week before her period or the week after the period and that the middle time was when it was "safe" to not use protection and not get pregnant. Yea, really wrong.

Oh holy cow poor guy! Vaginas don't rip during the first sexual encounter, the hymen does. I feel so bad for him, he must have some horrible guilt issues!

I heard that having "dry sex" sex without much lubrication will make it more difficult for the sperm to get to the egg...OUCH!

The worst one I have ever heard is that virgin women ALWAYS fight to remain a virgin so you have to rape them their first time, but after that they "magically" LOVE sex...

I've heard of older women telling younger women that sex is just for the man and that it's just something you have to deal with if you can't find an excuse not to....possibly the most untrue thing I've ever heard LOL.

wow...how many girls had kids after that!??!

I think they should tell the girls that antibiotics can cancel out birth control. I have a friend who didn't know this and ended up with 2 kids. She didn't know until I told her.

I know people that have been in that situation as well...it amazes me that doctors don't warn you! Or even pharmacists (my current one DOES but I've had others that did not) since they have record of everything you're taking.

Another one I know that's led to children is women that believe that you can't get pregnant the first time.

In the last few years, I have actually had younger women, around age 22-24 tell me that they were not using birth control since they always douched with regular Coca Cola after sex. I was shocked! Needless to say, I gave them the correct information and backed it up with several websites and the numbers to the local Health Department and Planned Parenthood group.

Had one girl in high school who thought any type of jelly could be used for contraception - she used grape and wondered how she got pregnant. *headdesk*

Well...I did! But..it was like years later so I had time to educate myself better, I just never really did and I used condoms mostly but there was times that we didn't have one so I was like "oh it's fine, it's been over a week since I had my period!" and one of those times eventually lead to a baby. At least I was older when it happened and wasn't a teen mom (I was 19)

But..there were a few girls who got pregnant in high school..I have to wonder if it's because they thought it was "safe" too.

Ohboy.

Let's see, I've heard, of course, douching after sex will get rid of semen. I've heard that putting in a tampon in after sex will soak up semen. I've heard Alka Seltzer will disolve semen.

I've heard tons of things.

This one really made me laugh. While it's sad that she honestly believed this, it's so silly that I'm not sure HOW jelly would even help!

AGH! I heard that one, too! They say it actually makes it more able to rip that way.

I heard the crap about not being able to get pregnant on your period, that you can't get pregnant if you have sex while standing up, and in high school a lot of boys got sick from drinking bleach because they thought it would kill their sperm. Seriously.

I heard this one when I was younger and it's really racist. I knew guys who wouldn't have sex with a girl if she had " EVER been known to" have had sex with a guy of an other race because "that sperm is always in there, and if she has your baby, it could be part black." WTF?

CATS can store sperm for months, humans cannot. And sperm does NOT "mix" and form mutant children from two different fathers.

Sadly, I grew up in a rather racist area, and myths like this abounded. Even as a kid, I knew there was something wrong with this one.
