What color should I paint my new sex and meditation room?

Contributor: Luvasaurus Luvasaurus
I am redoing the bedroom next to mine in my home. I want to turn it into a sex and meditation room. It will have my toys, sex furniture and tons of candles everywhere.

Here is where I need help…. I can’t think of what color to paint the room. My Liberator furniture is all black. I have been reading tons of information online about the impact of colors. All my guy friends keep telling me that no one cares about the paint color, if there is a naked person in the room. So I’m turning to you all.

I’m open to any suggestions you all have about color or what I should do with this room.

I'd go with a light blue with grey undertones or vice versa...very calming but also fairly sensual and candlelight will do great things for a color like that, and all colors of furniture and accessories should match because it's still fairly neutral.

Grey is one of my favorite colors and I would love to paint it grey. I love grey so much my room is 2 shades of blue with grey undertones. My hall is a light grey, a wall in my living room is grey and my down stairs bedroom and downstairs bathroom are 2 different shades of grey. I really like grey...

As an art/advertising major, here's a few things I've been taught. I don't know whether any of them are true, but I think it's kinda interesting to ponder over.

Pink: Soft, Feminine
Red: Passion, Romance, Anger & thought to induce hunger
Orange: Energetic, "Bouncy"
Blue: Thought-provoking, Meditative
Green: New life (almost dangerous to put in a sex room, unless you're trying for a baby )
Yellow: Cheerful, Sunny
Purple: Calming, Historically signified Royalty/Wealth
Grey: Monotone, Ponderous

I'm sure I've missed a few points on a couple colors, but that's all I could remember at the moment =)

Personally, I'd do a mix of mostly a light, warm grey that has blue undertones, then go back in and add some blue accents or make one wall completely blue.

Lacquer it a glossy, deep red - like a crimson cranberry red. The reflection from the candles will make it sparkle like a jewel box and give your skin a lovely glow.

I heard yellow was supposed to be the most calming and happy color.

Personally, I think black and a dark deep purple color are a very erotic, sensual color combination.

I think Red would be really, really hot.

I vote white. White walls with the black furniture and whatever other colors are your accents.

I said Green, because I think it's a very pretty and calming color.

If you do it a neutral color you can use lights to make it whatever color you feel like.

I had a hard time deciding because the room is meant not only for sex, but for meditation. If the room was for meditation alone, I would go with a soft green color because I have read that it is one of the most calming colors.

Red or purple would be great for a sex room, but red would not work well at all for meditation. It's not exactly a calming color. But purple might not be a bad choice, though if you go with a dark shade in a small room, the effect might be too oppressive.

I have also read that designers highly recommend gray/blue walls. They create a soothing ambiance, they off-set art and decorations well, and they look professional. They look fantastic with a white trim. Plus, gray/blue walls would look great with the black Liberator furniture and would also help relax you when you want to use the room for meditation.

You know, if you do decide to go with red, I would make it a very deep, rich red with lots of blue undertones. That way, it is still a passionate color that might be more calming than a red with more orange/yellow undertones.

Earthy. Medium to deep taupe, and decorate with lots of rich fabrics in hues of red and purple. Think Eastern-inspired prints, but by keeping the walls a very neutral color, you can easily change the decor whenever the mood strikes

I love this idea. I think neutral walls is the safest way to go. And the rich red and purple fabrics could have traces of black in them. The black Liberator furniture would look very nice in such an environment.

That sounds wonderful! Why is such a beautiful, sensual woman single? Men, wake up!

I voted purple, actually lavender. Red is pretty and sexy, but it can grate on nerves if one spends long amounts of time in a fully red room. It's also thought to incite anger. NOT good for either meditation or sex.

White can benefit meditation, and can leave room for more interesting sexual experimentation. So, I'd vote for lavender or white. Our bedroom has been white, with lots of white accessories, (and sadly, dark furniture, which I would change if we had the Bucks) for a number of years, and I can say it is certainly a nice place to make love.

Purple is said to be a great color for meditation and creativity.

I'd personally go green or blue, but purple can be lovely and have an elegant air.

I would do a deep magenta with the black furniture. The pink is deep and passionate, but with a bit more spunk than red. The fabric on the wall is a great idea also.

Agreed. I saw a burst of posts on design posts a while back where they had stripes of colour. It was SO beautiful and not just stripes.. it was all the same colour but stripes of gloss vs. matte paint. So incredibly awesome. Check out apartmenttherapy.com or remodelaholic for good ideas.

Exactly. Really go for that exotic effect, but if you keep the walls neutral you can easily redecorate without having to match brightly colored walls.

Personally, I'd paint abstract murals all over the walls, and hang fabric and stuff. But that's just me.

I said blue. I don't think red would be good for meditation, and blue is calming but also sensual. :]
