Date suggestions?

Does anyone have any suggestions besides the stand by of dinner & a movie? We're not "party" people so bars aren't really our thing either. My partner & I are looking for new ideas! Anything that can remain somewhat budget friendly are always appreciated!
Thanks in advance!!

Picnics are always fairly inexpensive. To make it a little more fun, head to your local farmers market first and pick your menu items from there. no cooking involved, fresh fruits vegs and baked goods.

another couple of ideas, beachcombing if you live near a beach, sometimes its just nice to walk on the beach and talk, see what you find. or one of my other favorites is Factory tours, alot of times its mainly just the cost of gas to get there.

Well, there is always mini golf but, I believe Essin' Em would classify that as a dating hazard......

MaxD- Yeah.. I've read of her horrific experience! Who knew put-put could end so badly??!?!

Robyn- Thanks for the suggestion of Factory tours. I'll have to check and see if we have any in the area. We actually have our own garden! We try to eat fresh fruit & veggies most of the time, frozen in the winter when the prices sky rocket here.

Dave & Busters is fun.. we LOVE to go bowling.. concerts or movies in the park, they have those every place we've ever lived... We also play World of Warcraft, it's our little hobby together. Er, ordering pizza or chinese and playing a game of cards, scrabble, or we rent a movie we'd otherwise NEVER rent just to try something new. Staying in is always nice. You guys could go race go-carts, ha... find the museums in the area, if you have a Ripley's Believe it or Not those are incredibly fascinating. You guys could always seek out local bands that play at restaurants or pubs.. in my hometown there was a fantastic irish pub with cheap food, great homemade beer, and phenom bands that played. Seek out new things, like a cultural arts center... maybe even take dancing lessons together then hit up a salsa club.

I'm another World of Warcraft player! M and I also play console games together as well, and go for walks to look at houses (we're hoping to buy in the next year). Check out if you have any nice parks in your area--sometimes it's just nice to take a blanket and go hang out there for the afternoon.

We've found that it doesn't matter so much if we leave the house or not, it's just nice to declare a chunk of time "date time" and just be focused on each other rather than each doing our own thing.

What about the zoo or museums? Those are always good or taking a class together? It doesn't matter what you do as long as you are having fun and together,

Thanks for the great suggestions! We do some of these already.. but some are great!
I haven't been bowling in forever, though I have shoes & a ball. Thanks Sleeping Dreamer! Maria, good suggestion about the houses, we're still about 3 years out from owning our own, but one can dream! Greathouse2008- thanks for the suggestion of a class. Maybe cooking?
Thanks again to everyone!

I love touring wineries. Budget-friendly, and usually located in the country or in quaint little towns. Plus, cheap way to get blitzed!

If you both like nature you could go hiking, and have a picnic. many of the nature reserves have little museum type places where you can go in and look around. some of them close to the coast also have mini aquariums with many beautiful fish.

Bingo- it sounds lame but it's not, it's really not. If you find the right place they may have food, very chatty friendly folks.... plus it's thrilling winning some cash on a Bingo!! Plus, you'll hear a few of the old regulars swear once or twice if someone calls Bingo when they don't actually have a Bingo.

Check out local movie theaters, I know you're not into them bu- we have one that has $1 Tuesdays, it's a great way to kill a couple hours. IMAX is fun if you're into sea life, dinosaurs, etc. They usually put on good presentations.

Head to a karaoke bar if you're feeling adventurous.. or even your latest Best Buy to try out the Rock Band. My husband and I spent like 2 hours at one about a month ago, we had a lot of fun as people just passed by laughing as I tried my best at wailing on the geetar.

Check out allrecipes.com and pick a new recipe once a week to try to make together. Cooking is awesome because not only does it require a little elbow grease and gettin dirty, but you end up with someone that might just taste fantastic.

Right now there may be Christmas light displays that are up till the New Year. I know we have a few places you can drive through- that's a good way to kill an hour, etc.

You should find out if there are any drive-in movies close to where you live. The town I live in has one, and they are SO much fun! I'm not too into the dinner-and-a-movie date either, but you can bring snacks (or even dinner if you want) and blankets and whatever else to the drive-in. Generally you get to see two movies for less than the price of one at a regular theater. And last but not least, there's always the possibility of play time in the car

We have a drive in (when the weather is nice, it's currently closed for the season). I LOVE it!! Great suggestion.

Love the cooking & IMAX idea. I never thought about it, but just looked it up online and there is one about an hour from us.

Parks and Festivals. In my city there's at least 2-3 a month. National Parks are great too.

Oh, hey! I may do that recipe thing. I don't know how to cook, and my husband's going to school to be a chef and whatnot. Could be fun. Great idea!

cooking together is awesome. It's especially fun if you try a different cuisine - I recently bought a Madhur Jaffrey cookbook and we've been trying all sorts of new things.

We also like reading out loud to each other. We'll pick a novel and work though it, or share poems or essays or short stories we like.

Poke around on the internet and see if there's any dancing clubs - swing, salsa, contra, etc. Usually they give a lesson first and then have music playing for a while so you can practice, and it's only a few bucks. (Some lessons are better than others, so you might need to try a few different places.)

Also call around any colleges you have nearby. Lectures, movie nights, museums, astronomy observation times - usually all free or very cheap. See if you an find their student newsletter, which usually lists such events.

Go play goofy golf together.

Go bake cookies together.

Go for a long walk together.

Go to the local park and play with someone else's dog!

If you're lucky go to the beach for a picnic, or see if you can charter a sailboat for a day.

Have you tried running out of gas? Driving somewhere new practically on E?

On a serious note, some of the best times I’ve had with my special lady have been working together on booking and promoting shows.

Throughout the whole process we end up spending so much time together, talking about which bands to book, making fliers, contacting people and venues, and promoting it all –sometimes for months beforehand.

When the night of the show finally arrives, it is an amazing date night that both of us have put so much work into making happen, together.

There is a lot of juggling involved but there is also an enormous feeling of accomplishment and pride that we both share. Once the show actually starts, most of the evening is us hanging out, having a few drinks, and watching our favorite bands together. I never really thought about it as a date until I read this thread, but it is a date. It’s also a very unique experience.

Our private after parties are also very memorable, if you catch my meaning.

Geocaching.com - you should check it out. Yes, you have to make an initial investment to buy the right kind of GPS device - but you can get one for under $100 on ebay. It's a great date if you like adventures.

I am all about my man so the cheap way to hang out with him is to plan a menu for him and cook him something new. I would take a walk with him to the video store to rent a movie we both like may be it horror or comedy and I would probably prepare a nice bath, light candles and prepare cups of wine for us to enjoy as we mellow in the warm water.
So thats my suggestion!

One of my favorite dates ever has been a photography class my partner and I took together. It's like a set date night every week, and depending on the class you take there is always something new to do. With our photography class we got to practice.. sometimes on one another! We then made dates to go out and explore museums, art galleries.. you get the idea. Our next adventure is a cooking class.. *Lol* And we both need it. But it means enjoying our time in the kitchen, and having a legitimate excuse to go out!

Museums and galleries are cool-that way you get to know a person a bit better, its great for conversing, free or cheap. Barbeques, look in the paper for wine tastings, exhibits, etc. Its good to discuss and share.

Definitely museums. Big one for me, I'm a very intellectual and artistic person. Science museums are also fun.
