When do you start buying holiday presents?

Contributor: Augustxsins Augustxsins
Winter holidays are only four months away! Whether you celebrate Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, the Winter Solstice, etc., the question is the same: how far out do you start buying presents for the lovely people on your list?

If I see something throughout the year I'll pick it up, otherwise December is when I get serious.

I used to have it completed by Thanksgiving, as my kids have gotten older I watch for sales and get it when I can find a good sale.

Most in December. I like shopping during the holidays. I can't buy Christmas presents in the summer or the fall. I can't even buy them after Christmas, as the picked over look of the tables and shelves depresses me. I also will most likely put the presents somewhere and then won't find them near Christmas.

We have a huge Craft Fair near our home in November. My best friend and I go there and buy a lot of presents to start our shopping. Then I put it off and I'm running around the week before Christmas, paying for Expedited Shipping to get stuff in time from Amazon!

It is August 12, and this weekend I just bought the LAST of my Christmas gifts. By spreading it out, I can get people NICE gifts, I KNOW they will want, without rushing, pushing, paying insane prices (I make a list and wait for great sales) and I CAN RELAX for the next four months. I even have some WRAPPED already). Other then a few "online last minute" ideas, it is all DONE, DONE, DONE.

I tend to make food for people instead of buying things they have no use for.

My fiance and I usually start buying in September. We try to buy one present each paycheck since we have such large families and we buy for both of our families.

I normally buy all year round since we have 2 kids and are usually low on money. I haven't even had the cash to pick up any at all this year though.

Last year I bought my girlfriend's gift on the 22nd.... but it was the perfect gift. Hopefully I won't cut it so close this year, I should probably start planning now. I'm thinking about making gifts for extended family, so I'd better star that soon!

I start thinking about gifts pretty early, but I've found that if I buy things too early I end up blabbing or giving them early and then Christmas comes and I'm rushing to find something. So I usually wait until September or so.
