I think Rob Zombie made an excellent decision becoming a director of horror films. I am very much looking forward to Lords of Salem. And his wife? I could eat her up with a spoon.

I personally do not like Rob Zombies movies, and I find Sheri Moon to be extremely annoying (but to each his own). My biggest problem with Rob Zombie is that he grew watching all the same movies as other horror fans, and I feel like he sort of cherry picked the best most innovative parts of the classics and sort of slaped them all together without really reinventing anything.
That being said, I do give him credit for being passionate enough about horror movies to make his own. I also give him credit for bringing horror movies to a lot of new people who were not previously into horror through his musical fan-base.
I did really like the ending of the Devils Rejects, where they go out in a blaze of gunfire over 'Free Bird'. I also really appreciated the intensity of the beginning of Halloween II. I think it is possible if he keeps making movies he will come more into his own thing. As a director he is still very new in the game.

I pretty much agree with Gary. He's not a horrible director by any means, but I find a lot of his choices to be more eye-rolling than anything. But I grew up on horror, I'm a little intense about it. That being said, when you put his Halloween remakes up against the other remakes of today... let's just say, Friday the 13th, Last House on the Left and A Tale of Two Sisters, Rob Zombie is a horror god. Though that's not saying much. Those three remakes were butchered. I actually liked some of the choices he made in the Halloween remakes (namely Michale's mask), even if he did totally fuck up the original mythology and story line.
As a stand alone directory, he's fine. His stories are often (never thought I'd say this) too driven by blood, boobs and gratuitous use of the word "fuck". I would have no issue with that aside from the fact that his films are often riddled with continuity errors.
Overall, I respect the guy, I know that he's a true horror fan and I feel like he has potential, especially if he tried to make some real innovations, I'm just not a huge fan.

I really liked House of 1000 Corpses but The Devils Rejects kinda bugged me. I know alot of people like the second one better but I felt like he changed the characters' personalities too much. Sheri Moon is no longer all crazy and childish in the second one which really threw me off. I've been meaning to rewatch them though and see if I feel the same way still.

House of...isn't my favorite film of his for this reason. The final execution was painfully drawn out and kind of annoying for me to sit through. My favorite character is Otis Driftwood and I was gleeful when Mother Firefly got her just desserts. Salacious whores don't really appeal to my senses.
Interestingly enough, Rob was raised by Carnies and had a ton of allergies as a kid so he was forced to sit in doors a lot, often alone. His parents didn't censor what he watched when they were around and he spent most of his time watching classic horror films and that is how he came to choose White Zombie as his band's name. He was quoted as saying that he got into music because he knew he could do anything he wanted with it. He wasn't expecting to become as successful as he did. I think the same attitude carries into his filmwork. He is very meticulous and will work on a set until it is perfect to him. He also refuses to appear or act in any of his films, which I find to be highly respectable.
I just drool over the guy as a director. I was never a huge fan of his music.

Lucidity had a great point about RZ's remakes compared to the other modern remakes. I refused to even watch Last House after seeing the preview. Also, I will definitely check out RZ's new movie. I did enjoy the new F13th & Nightmare remakes, but only because I love the characters so much; the movies were not great, it was just awesome to see them again.

Yeah I personally think that Rob Zombies movies are over the top. He adds things just for shock value and the plot and acting gets kind of muddled. I think his wife is a terrible actress and really detracts from the film that much more. It's like when Quentin Terintino acts in his own movies, just wrong.
