What do you think of Award Shows?

The only award shows I've ever watched were the MTV Video Music Awards. I've never been interested in film/television awards. I no longer even watch the MTV awards. I think award shows are totally unnecessary and a huge waste of money and I just don't see the point. What's your opinion?
