It's been a 3-way tie with me for years. Gov't Mule - Social Distortion - Elvis Presley.

I've never heard of Gov't Mule, what kind of music do they/he/she make?

It's a jam band guitar rock kind of sound. Their frontman is Warren Haynes (who I'm a little in love with just for the way he plays his guitar) who is also the current guitarist for the Allman Brothers. They play a lot with The Dead and Phil Lesh and Friends and are touring with Jackie Greene right now but they definitely have an edgier sound than any of them, in my opinion. Either way, they are just amazingly talented.

Warren Haynes has filled in with, or played with like every major band at some point, he is just awesome!

I don't think every major band is a correct assumption.

My favorite band is, while, I don't really have one. I listen to everything, it just depends on my mood for that day

Favorite band of all time is a real tough one for me to answer. I guess, if I am forced to choose, I would pick Crosby, Stills & Nash. Or James Taylor. (waffle much? )
I adore the Killers and Kings Of Leon, Marvin Gaye for soul, Stevie Ray Vaughn for Blues, Michael Buble for easy listening... honestly, I could go on and on. Music is a huge part of our lives!

I really do adore him...I have pictures of him hung up in my office like a 14 year old would stick that Justin Beiber person all over the inside of their locker. I've seen him play both with the Allmans and with Mule. I've been lucky enough to attend one of the New Years eve shows at the Beacon where they play 3 whole shows in 1 night (started at 8 pm ended around 3:30 am) and he had John Popper, Toots Hibbert, Gregg Allman, and the brass section of the Mississippi All Stars out on stage with him. Seriously amazing.

There are just too many good bands/musicians!

Best guitarists you (prolly) don't listen to: Prince and Ani DiFranco.

Lyricist: Billy Corgan (circa 1994) and David Grohl.

I'm such an audiophile!

I totally agree that Prince is a highly underrated guitarist. And I think Ani DiFranco is underrated in general - she got a reputation for being an angry female musician and I think it keeps a lot of people from listening to her music - they're missing out!

They totally are. I used to be embarrassed to own "Little Plastic Castles" and "Dilate". "Shameless" is an example of her guitar prowess! Years later though, I realized how much those two albums helped me out emotionally.

Hrm, I like a lot, and I love video game music as well, but here are some of my favorites:

Entwine
Birthday Massacre
Cruxshadows
System Syn
PAIN (the metal band, not the rap/hip hop one)

Some of my favorite game music:

Silent Hill
Star Ocean Till the End of Time
Tales of Symphonia
Legend of Zelda

I like those two but "Not a Pretty Girl" will always be my favorite. It was my first exposure to her and it's so emotional and cathartic, it goes to a place that not a lot of music does.

I do love

VNV Nation
Aural Vampire
The Smashing Pumpkins
Luna Sea

I like a lot of bands, but I tend to listen to band music less than acts known more for one person and things like video game and anime soundtracks. My favorite genres that involve bands are various electronic genres like synthpop, new wave.

Music is an important part of my life and it's too hard for me to narrow things down so much!

I'd love to hear your playlists!

My all-time top two favorites are Queen and Metallica.

Current faves include Modest Mouse and Amanda Palmer (solo artist).

Honestly, there are just so many bands and artists I like that I can't just choose one or even two.

My boy is a huge Queen fan and I'm becoming more and more of one each day. I always liked them because my dad was a fan but with more and more exposure, I become more and more impressed.

Queen got my through my early teenage years. Freddie was a huge influence on me. Glad to see another fan emerging.

Metallica got me through my late teens and early-to-mid 20s.

I remember watching news coverage, including a lot of past interviews, when Freddie died (I was 9)- it's the day my dad actually sat me down and told me who he was and started playing Queen for me. And the couple years after that, there was always Queen music on, Queen concert videos on, and interviews with Freddie on VH1 on World AIDS Day. His charisma and incredible presence, while still be personally so shy and withdrawn absolutely fascinate me. Even watching DVD footage of him now with my boyfriend, his power, both musically and personality-wise still almost flusters me. It's a very odd reaction to someone I never even saw in person or knew of until he was gone but I guess it speaks well for who he was.

OK, I'm so excited and this thread popped up so I have to do my lil happy dance - I just got Social Distortion tickets for November at the Stone Pony in Asbury Park (if you're not from NY/NJ/PA, the Stone Pony is a somewhat legendary little rock club). I. CAN'T. WAIT!
