Magazine subscriptions?

Contributor: gone77 gone77
Most all magazines can be found in their entirety online. Because more people are turning to the internet, many magazines have either closed out or are offering greatly reduced or free subscriptions to their paper editions. Just for shit ands giggles, I got free 1-yr subscriptions to Allure and Glamour because they came with the brand and quantity of tampons I bought.

I'm curious if anyone still regularly subscribes to paper editions of their favorite magazines? I currently subscribe to Entertainment Weekly and Popular Science and plan to continue to do so. I used to subscribe to Playboy when I was younger, but eventually got tired of the models. I've subscribed to all manner of magazines over the years, but that's declined for me.

What about you guys? What paper edition magazines do you subscribe to? And if you don't subscribe to any, how come?

I subscribe to a bunch - FoodNetwork, Martha Stewart, VenusZine, Bust, and Rolling Stone to name a few. There are also certain ones - Curve, Rachel Ray, Gourmet, People, Tattoo, Weird NJ, that I will pick up single issues of if I'm at Borders and see something interesting on the cover.

We get National Geographic, Popular Mechanics, and Modern Science (I think that is the title). I love reading these magazines!

Weird NJ is really cool!

We still get Seventeen at the house, and we end up buying People. Although when I'm bored at work, I'll sometimes look up People's online.

I got a free one year subscription to Entertainment Weekly for paying $25 for some reward program. I got addicted to it but it ran out and I can't afford to buy a full subscription on my own.

I had a Cosmo subscription and it was awesome. My boyfriend and I laugh at like every page of that shit.

That's awesome!

I get magazine subscriptions rarely. I just hate having them laying around months afterward.

I've had Maxim (when it was cool), Entertainment weekly (which I liked), and would love to have a good science-y or sci-fi magazine subscription. I'd LOVE to have a Doctor Who magazine subscription!

Cosmo is a toss up. It seems they only have about 12 total issues, rehashing the same stuff over and over again. They only update the pictures and ads.

I used to but when I moved out and started having real responsibilities I had to ditch some of the things I used to like. Also, I'm trying to minimize the clutter in my apartment (It's not that big) so adding tons of magazines would be a problem because I know I would have a hard time getting rid of them

That's right, you're not that far from Jersey...have you every actually gone to any of the sites listed in the articles? There are some really good ones in S. Jersey not that far from Philly.

Oh it is, it's full of a lot of awesome stories, the new one just came Saturday and I'm taking a break from my Kindle (which is a miracle, seriously) to read it!
This actually looks far more like a paperback book and has far fewer ads.

I've never been a big fan of magazines, but my parents got me a subscription to Reader's Digest, so that shows up every month or so.

I found sites that offer free magazine subscriptions, so get a ton. I think we get Better Homes and Gardens, Glamour, Seventeen, Cosmopolitan, Esquire, OK People, Good Housekeeping, Redbook, LegoClub Magazine, and MacWorld monthly. They kinda pile up in a pile 'til I get bored and take some to work to read.

National Geographic is about the only magazine we have a subscription too anymore. Definitely a long time favorite of mine.

Currently I subscribe to More magazine and Writers Digest. But there are quite a few that I really like. And I prefer the hard copy over the internet for reading magazines or books.

I'm with you on the hard copy thing. I'm not against technology but I'm never going to be a Kindle or Nook user, and I still haven't warmed up to the iPod. I like my music on CDs and my reading material in books. Old fashioned, but things like the feel and smell of a new book absolutely thrill me.

Many online retailers now have boxes at the checkout which offer a free magazine. Drives me crazy because I couldn't figure out why I was being sent ones that I don't even read. Now I know why and make sure to check or uncheck the box for the magazine offers. My area now offers magazine recycling, so at least I'm not throwing them in the trash if I don't read them.

I get Glamour, In Style, Allure, Lucky, People, Seventeen , and BHG Scrapbooks The ones I get that I didn't want are BHG, Elle, Women's Health, Women's Day, and Shape.

Really? Can you recommend some websites to me? If I could get free subscriptions to some craft magazines I would have it made!

I'm totally with you on that! I don't want old cozy bookstores to go out of business because of the iBook or whatever they're trying to sell these days. I get a kick out of running to the store to get the newest book from a favorite author or CD from a favorite band. Maybe I'm just a nerd

I used to be the same way about the Kindle and other e-readers. I still love nothing more than a good old hardcover book, but I'm running out of room for them. lol And I just can't beat the convenience of an e-reader. Countless books at the tips of my fingers? Yes, please!

HeyItsFree.net is a blog where the owner posts when nice freebies are coming out. It's neat 'cause I always have free samples coming in as well as the magazines. I know MyCokeRewards.com also offers magazines as a prize.

(LegoClub is pretty amazing. Jor loves it.)

I haven't seen the magazine in a while, but I think I may have been to a few of the places before I saw them in the Magazine. Victoria is from South Jersey, I bet she has been to a number of them as well.

I know! I love waiting for 'release dates' on books and CDs and stopping at Borders the day they come out. And if that makes you a nerd, it makes me one too

I'm from far northern Jersey but when I was a little younger, it was a normal weekend thing for me and my friends to go stalking around all the sites mentioned in Weird NJ...problem is though, that once the magazine and the places got really popular, the cops started hanging out at them to keep the kids away. Damn the man!

That magazine looks awesome! I'm seriously thinking of subscribing!

I get Cosmo, Fitness and Shape. I love having the actual magazine in my hands, so I'll probably always subscribe to something. I also clip out all the articles, pictures, etc that I really like and put them in a binder.
