I don't like sparkling vampires, nor the other aspects of the vampires seen in that series (or the series as a whole). It just seems like the author didn't do any research at all, and just wrote up her wet dreams.

Non-sparkly, traditional scary vampires.

I recommend "The Strain" by Guillermo Del Toro & Chuck Hogan.

Dracula didn't sparkle. Varney the Vampire didn't sparkle. Barnabas Collins didn't sparkle. Nick Knight didn't sparkle. Even Lestat didn't sparkle, and he's more prissy than other vampires.

Sparkling is for drag queens.

The way I see it, twilight is another fictional story, which came from the mind of yet another story teller. It's just someone else's interpretation. Regardless of the technical details, the story is still a good one. I dont know anyone who has read all 4 books and said they didnt like the story.

I'm okay with stories where vamps are able to go out into the sun with minimal damage/sensitivity, but the sparkling thing is just silly. I prefer traditional vampires that burn up in the sun, like the rest of you.

That may be because those who don't like the story (or the writing, because from what I read of it, the writing wasn't great) don't bother to finish all four books.

Blech. Non-sparkling.

I'm fine with vampires that don't burn in the sun, since not all vampires did/do. But they are low-powered in the sunlight, and have to be super-powerful in the first place to go out into it, seeing as how they are the soulless, re-animated bodies of the dead.

Couldn't have said it better.

Companions of the Night is a great book, if anyone wants a good book.

She actually bragged about doing next to no research, which is how Twilight has howlers like the son of an Anglican vicar in London in the 1660's was hunting witches for burning and didn't know what year he was born, a 16-year-old having to lie about his age to get into the Confederate Army in 1865, a banker's daughter being a privileged princess living a life of luxury with no idea what was going on during the Great Depression (not before, DURING), and Brazil either having a west coast or the sun setting in the east.

I knew of a couple of those, but that just makes me want to weep. I got into reading with Bernard Cornwell, who thoroughly researches information, and any discrepancies are down to either artistic licence, or theorisation on his part - both of which I can live with. But her doing next to no research, and even bragging about it? No. Just ... no.

I don't discriminate when it comes to vampires. I like there there are so many varying opinions and species out there. I enjoy several different TV shows/movies about vampires and they are all totally different. I really like all the details and how they are different from one show/book/author to the next.

Much as I hate the sparkling variety, the sad thing is that, if you look into vampire folklore from around the world, there are some that are way, way stupider.
