Which Stephen King film is your favourite, and why?

Contributor: Breas Breas 08/28/2011

I'm a huge fan of his movies, but have not seen them all. For all you other fans of Stephen King, which movie would you say is your favourite, and why?

My favorite is Stand by Me, which I think was based on his story The Body.

I like Stand by Me, the Shawshank Redemption, and The Green Mile. But I really prefer his books to his movies. They are just so much better in every way.

It was a tough choice between Pet Cemetery and Storm of the Century, but I chose Storm of the Century, because since I was young and had just fallen in love with these types of movies, I felt it was a bit more frightening of a concept, as it was more realistic than zombie pets lol.

It also changed the song for me, forever lol

I voted for Thinner, but I could have just as easily voted for Children of the Corn, Pet Semetary, Christine, The Mist, The Ward, or It.
I love Stephen King.
Thinner was probably his first movie I saw, and it has just stuck in my mind!

Out of that list, The Storm of the Century. Out of all of his movies---IT, The Shining and Rose Red are the best, imo. They're just good ghost stories.

I put Pet Cemetary, it's one of my favorites though you had a few on the list that I also love. But my ultimate favorite is "IT." That clown cracks me up! And he scares my sister so it's easy to torture her when the mood strikes, just bring up a picture of It onto the computer and call her over to see this "awesome picture". . . *sighs* it always works.

Stanley Kubrick's The Shining is absolutely amazing. Shawshank Redemption is excellent as well. The Shawshank redemption isn't really horror though, so I'd have to give it to The Shining for a Stephen King movie that fits in that genre.

I would have to say Shawshank Redemption and Delores Claiborne. Kathy Bates is amazing, and that movie was a very real kind of disturbing.

Stand By Me The Shawshank Redemption and The Green Mile.

His less paranormal books and stories tend to translate into movies better. Also, the second try of The Shining. The made for TV one, was much truer to the book than the Kubrick's version with Jack Nickelson. (which I obviously can't spell.) Kubrick's was so far from the book, even though it was scary. I liked the made for TV movie, which King actually liked better himself. He actually hated Kubrick's version as Kubrick strayed so far from the actual book and Nickelson was obviously already insane from the beginning. The entire book was about a man's descent into insanity without even being sure the house was totally involved, not a crazy guy in a haunted house acting nutty. Kubrick didn't get it.

Actually close to half of King's published writing has either only small amounts to no paranormal activity. IMO, some of his best work is the less horrific stuff, although the book IT is amazing.

I've yet to see a lot of the classic Stephen King films, like Pet Sematary and The Shining.

Of the ones I've seen, it's hard for me to pick between The Mist and 1408. Both are really good, and 1408 is a little bit scarier, I think, but I voted for The Mist because (spoiler alert) the ending was just so damn brutal and powerful. Apparently even King himself wished he'd thought of it (since the story ends differently).

My mother and I pretty much had our own little mini Stephen King book club. We both really enjoyed reading Storm of the Century together and we had a bonding moment when we saw the movie together for the first time, too. My overall favorite of his is the Shawshank Redemption. I can watch that movie a million times a day and never get tired of it. The same goes for that novella; it was a damn good read!

The Shining of course or The Stand.

The Shining has Jack Nicholson and Shelly Duvall as a married couple which cracks me up. Of course Jack's character goes crazy and he plays crazy quite well. The history of an old hotel where murders have taken place, classic. The little boy going on and on about "Tony" and crying out REDRUM over and over. My mom and kids love that flick too.

The Stand because of the post apocalyptic message. Good verses Bad, Heaven and Hell, everyone just dropping dead with no cure. Wonderful.
