Can you smell winter?

Contributor: MidnightStorm MidnightStorm
Every year around this time (in my area) it starts getting relatively cold and the air changes. To me, winter air tends to smell fresher, crisper, and sometimes a little muskier depending on who is burning what. I often comment on how the air smells because it's so noticeable in the days before winter, but still in fall. Sometimes people look at me like I'm crazy, but sometimes people completely know what I'm talking about!

So... Can you smell winter?

What? I've never heard of that and I don't smell winter. That's weird!

Yes I can actually, it smells so much...cleaner and crisp. Sort of like the scent of the little vent in the freezer that blows the cold air.

My mother thinks I'm weird for being able to smell the difference in the air once winter hits, but it's there even if it is too subtle for some people to notice.

Yes. Coldness has a smell, and I hate it. Lol. During the winter, when someone or a pet comes in from outdoors, it has that smell sort of like when it rains or cold and wet outside odor. I hate it!

I can, and I agree that it smells crisp, especially after snow has fallen and no ones stepped in it. People in my town still don't get why I like standing on my porch with a hot cup of coffee XD.
