Comfort Food

What is your favorite comfort food?

Inspired by me just finishing a bowl of long grain rice and black-eyed peas. My favorite comfort food meal is country fried steak, mashed potatoes and steamed broccoli.

Pasta with butter and olive oil, occasionally parmesan as well, paired with hot chocolate (butterscotch chips melted in) for my depressive moods.

The hot chocolate sounds really good! I like to dump half of a packet into my coffee during the winter. So good!

Mmmm, nanner pudding! I will never forget the year my mother tried to cheat by using instant vanilla pudding. I can't remember whose birthday it was but once we all were served we simultaneously took our first bite, looked from one to the other in turn and then pushed our bowls to the center of the table. I don't think I've ever attempted to make it, but I might try sometime this week. It's the perfect summer dessert!

Do you like it with the merengue?

It really is. I still add my normal amount of cream and sugar. It's a treat, for sure. Almost as fancy as those drinks from the national coffee chains. And best of all, it's not espresso based so no bitterness!

Absolutely!!! And the bananas have to be really ripe too! No hard bananas!! Hahaha! And you are right, has to be homemade custard! Instant will never do!

Hahaha I know right? The food threads always make me drool. I'm sure this one will be no different. I've kind of run into a rut and I might snag a few new ideas from others ideas of comfort foods.

Heh, I feel ya. There's nothing better than an awesome egg roll with sweet 'n' sour sauce and a nice Mongolian beef without those crispy fried noodle rice things.

Fried chicken, macaroni and cheese, my grandmother's potato salad, sweet tea, and my grandmother's cherry pie. The perfect Sunday lunch.

Is the mac 'n' cheese all gooey and creamy or is it the traditional style where it's more stringy and has lots of bread crumbs?

Now I think that's something everyone can get on board with. Besides, nanner pudding isn't good until the next day. And OMG your house would smell awesome with mac 'n' cheese baking away.

Absolutely never too late! Add a dollop of sour cream before you add butter and milk and you'll have restaurant quality potatoes!

I think we need to set up an event, like a pot luck, everyone bake their fav with recipes and post pics on the same night!! Food is equally as sexy as anything else! I have a little black apron and everything!

I think there is something similar over at the Eden Lives Healthy subforum. Key word there being healthy. LOL

I'd totally be down with doing something like your idea though! If there's one thing I know how to do as a Southerner, it's make artery-hardening see you in the cardiac unit food.

My ultimate comfort food has to be my grandmother's sticky black ribs served with rice. It's a dry honey garlic sauce and quite possibly the best thing I have ever put in my mouth.

And now I'm hungry.

Drat.

Tofu.

Yeah, I know what you are going to say, but I was raised a vegetarian, and that's what my mom made a lot when I was little! lol

Oh, Macaroni and Cheese hands down. Preferably the kind with real cheese.

It reminds me of those summer afternoons when mom would come outside and yell that it was lunch time.

Homemade mac and cheese. I just made some last night actually, it hit the spot. It's funny i never had the homemade variety till 3 years ago when i met my boyfriend and his mom made it for me than shared the recipe. So much better than velveta!!!
