Computer Embarrassment

Contributor: link82 link82
Have you ever had to take your computer in to get fixed and been embarrased about the content on it? I just had to get mine repaired and thought about how I have EF bookmarked and the other various items that would be a little embarrassing (to me). Any experience with this or funny stories???

I clear everything and don't save anything bad n my computer, but I do worry something bad might get found.

Anytime someone uses my computer I watch them like a halk lol. I have a lot on this laptop that I don't want everyone to see!

My husband makes sure everything is completely removed.

Something similar happened to a young Hong Kong actor, he forgot to remove all his sex videos (portraying himself and young actresses) from the laptop before taking it to the repair shop, and the technician uploaded all of them on the internet. It was big news in Hong Kong a few years back, and the culprit received jail time. Those girls were so embarrassed and went into hiding for quite a while, the videos were pretty damaging, clearly displaying the girls' private parts.

I actually have to get a laptop fixed, but there is no EF stuff on it. My other tower needs to be fixed but I think windows needs to be reformated so I don't think anything will be discovered. It's only a sex shop, and I don't leave my account logged in, but if they find it, I hope they shop here too!

When I took an old laptop in for virus removal, I had cleared out my pictures file, but I forgot that they stayed in my Kodak Easyshare folder. Don't know if the technician looked in the folder, but if he did, he certainly got an eyeful!

I make a separate admin account for computer guys so they aren't seeing my browswer settings, pay extra to have them work at my house, and remove my photos to an SD card and pull it off before they do. But if they do somehow find out that I buy sex toys, it's not like I'm going to die of shame.

I'm actually more concerned about financial stuff.

I haven't had this problem, but would be embarrassed. I always delete my history, but if it broke before I cleared my history, I'm not sure what I'd do.

I think it would be bad for business if the people who fix your computers would be looking into your bookmarks, browser history or files. And somebody would find out about them ouch. By the way you can check system logs or install a time tracking software before bringing it to the service. If it's just a software problem anyway. I'm sure they have xxx content on their computers back home as well.

My boyfriend fixes all my computer problems. He will pretty much fix anything except for when my laptop's motherboard got fried. In such circumstance, it's just cheaper to replace the laptop than to fix it.
It can be embarrassing when he sees my book marked Japanese bondage porn though.

I just had this happen to me. I keep those kinds of links hidden in a folder, so I'm telling myself that those bookmarks were well hidden, and went unnoticed by the people fixing my computer.

I would be a little embarrassed by my small porn collection, but fixing my computer wouldn't require anyone to snoop around in my pictures anyway, so shame on them Otherwise, no. I mean, there's plenty I wouldn't necessarily WANT people to see but meh.

I don't have anything bookmarked or saved that would be embarrassing but oh well if I did, if they're snooping or just happen to see it it's not like they're gonna contact all your friends and family or something and tell about it.

I have pretty much everything saved onto my computer so if my friends (or IT) didn't know I liked sex toys, they learn quickly after they open it. Honestly, I have the feeling IT has probably seen much worse, so I'm not worried about it.

My hubby is a computer nerd, so he fixes our computers. I would never be embarrassed, if someone else had to fix our computer. They wouldn't find much except some lesbian porn and adult toy site. I mean chances are they have the same on their computer and if not they have seen worst.

Ah, another advantage of being a geek: Nobody ever messes with your PC. I would never be comfortable with a "store" working on my computer, but someone I knew personally might be okay. ProTip: Don't have people work on it for free, that's a recipe for disaster (and kinda horrible).

That will never happen to me b/c my husbands a certified computer tech so he can fix our own computers. We don't ever go through what people have bookmarked or go through their internet history. We only fix the problem and that's it. If we have to do virus scans and a porn site caused a virus we obviously see where the virus came from, but we don't make an issue of it.

I realy wonder about computer workshop workers ethics. How dare they allow themselfs to see my own data without any premision? I wish there is a law and hard punishment for them if they break the law of (privacy).
