Dating outside your race..

Contributor: Miss Anonymous Miss Anonymous
I was wondering how people feel about interracial relationships?

I know some people are cool with it, and some just don’t agree with it at all. I know some who don't because their family would just about disown them.

Growing up, my parents weren’t too comfortable with it, but they can’t control other peoples life. Both of my parents disliked most was black men with white women. They would NEVER say it to someone but I’ve heard them say it in privet. I grew up always attracted to other races and it’s like that today...

How about you?

Are you attracted to more than just your own race?

I don't just mean black and white, I mean any mix of races.

I consider myself a member of the human race and (before I was married) I dated anyone who qualified as such.

Haha, same. I was going to vote similarly. As far as our current social construct of race goes, yes I have dated outside of my race many times. If you have a problem with race, I think you may want to consider checking your values.

Agreed a million times over! It's still shocking that in 2012 that people are still VERY closed minded.. It's annoying to me.

It is disappointing that people slight others they don't even know, and whose lives have zero affect on their own. Race is not the only disappointing bias that still exists.

I'm not against the idea at all, I just find I am more attracted to my own race.

I couldn't but that's just because my idea of beauty since childhood is an angular face, pale skin, pale eyes and blonde or red hair. Freckled boys gain points in my heart too. And I married a blonde with magnificient green-grey eyes with a lot of beauty spots/mole/freckles.

People from other races can be cute/beautiful, but I just don't feel that "omg come here I'm gonna make you scream" I feel with pale featured people, just a "cute :3".

I can say I'm attracted to people of the other race but I have been with my wife since we were dating in high school so never dated anyone else.

I am mixed myself. While there are some races I find more attractive I am not opposed to dating any race. I go for the person and how they treat me rather than what color skin they have.

I'm cool with it. I tend to not really think about it too hard, I suppose. I'd really just date whoever's awesome!

I've actually only ever dated outside my own race! This is partially because of the guys in my area and who went to school with me, very very few were of my race. Sometimes parents have had issues with it (not mine!), which has been difficult at times, but overall it's been great.

It makes me very sad when people turn down others because of their race. Men have even gone as far as to tell my best friend "I would date you if you weren't black." RAGE! Who could be so rude?! Apparently several people and one told her it was supposed to be a compliment... /sigh hopefully one day we will be past this kind of prejudice.

I think there is a very fine line between racism and personal preference when it comes down to it.

I have not issues, my past interest were both mixed. One was half Scottish half Chinese, the next was black and white. Who I'm with now is white, but it's not like that's really a factor to me.

I've only dated outside of my race, too and it caused lots of problems on his side. My parents don't care since our family is mixed with lots of different races.

I was even told the exact same thing that your friend was told, humblepie, which just pissed me right the fuck off. THOSE are the kind of asshole men I have to deal with around here, hence, one reason why I'm still single.

HA! I'm with you. I've only ever dated out of my race. Where I grew up, most of the black males were high school dropouts. With 2-3 baby-mama's and some selling drugs and it turned me off black men somewhat. I would very much date a black guy, but I'm in a relationship, and he's Mexican/white. I've always felt bad that I let the guys where I'm from change how I view black men. I'm personally more attracted to people outside my race.

I would never turn down someone because of their race... I'd wait to see how they treat me. Wow, that is crazy that they would say that... I've had one personal tell me I was going to burn in hell because I wasn't with a black guy, she told me I should be ashamed of myself. This was a grown ASS women.

I usually don't date people outside of my race but only because I am not typically attracted to them. There are times when it happens but it's not as common as being attracted to people in my own race.

Damn, that is so awful! It's crazy that people would have the guts to say something like that to someone. Its upsetting that family can't accept someone just because they make you happy.

My family isn't too racist... My boyfriend is Mexican/ white and my brothers girlfriend is Middle eastern (Palestinian)they are okay with it, because they know we love them. It would hurt if my parents had a problem with it...
