The only reason a person has an outtie is if they had an umbilical hernia as a baby. My preemie son has one, (he had a hernia), and I learned that when I was in nursing school.....just fyi!

Mine was an outie while I was pregnant. But when I'm not, it's an innie. My babies just popped that belly button out!!!! I was scared it wouldn't go back, but it did.

Like someone said, mild umbilical hernias, where the fascia inside the abdomen is weak or tears and allows pressure to push the belly button out.

Also, outties are for some reason much more common in African Americans (and I would assume Africans.)

I've seen a lot of African American babies with outies. I've work with many babies, so I see a lot of belly buttons. Preterm babies also tend to have them, as the fascia is weaker in preterm babies.

As a licensed EMT, I must say that if you have an outie vagina, you should seek medical attention right away. Unless you consider your penis to be an outie vagina.

I think vaginas are considered outies if the inner labia are longer than the outer labia.
