I cannot stand animals, and don't understand why someone would think of them as children.

I LOVED my dog. Until I had a kid. Then I realized I just liked my dog.

Being as I plan on not having children, my pets are my babies. I know it's not the same type of love of parent for child, but I still love and adore my furry babies.

(Ex-husband and I used to refer to dogfood/catfood as 'baby food' when at the store. Got some odd looks from people for doing that. It's not like we intentionally did it to be weird, it was just how 'pet food' came out while talking about them.) (Incidentally, he got custody of the cat in the divorce and I kept the dog. I still haven't gotten over losing the cat.)

Pets are pets. They aren't the same as kids...in my opinion, they are better than kids. But, not everyone will feel that way. I actually cannot stand most kids and have never felt inclined to having kids. One trip to the grocery store on a day there isn't school is enough to make me check my birth control. Being around some very spoiled and ill-behaved young relatives this Thanksgiving was another reminder of why I don't want kids. (I think I'm getting old; it seems like kids these days are brattier than they were 10 years ago. Very entitled and whiny.)

I love my dog like a child, but I don't have any kids. So I think I can't really answer this correctly.

We love our pets as family. They are our FUR KIDS, but you still cannot compare them to your flesh and blood children. Plus, pets are still PETS. They have a short life and are dependents, not free beings who you need to set on their own course in the world. Not at all the same thing..much as we may love them, and they us.

I love my dog a ton, but I don't have kids so I can't really compare. I think of her as a member of the family.

Given that I never plan on having human kids...

I love my cats. If I had a dog, I would love it, too. I will do whatever it takes to protect them.

My husband and I love our dog AND our son, but my teenage son doesn't really care for our attention, so we shower all our love on our dog!

I ditto Rossie's post. My wife and I love our dog AND our daughter, but our daughter is off to college, so we shower all our love on our dog! Sorry for the copy, but I saw a similar pattern here with just a twist!!

By the way, our beautiful dog is a 5 year old Golden Retriever, named ROSSIE. Can you believe this!

I've got a funny feeling 'Rossie' above may not follow me any longer

Dislike animals and having them as pets. I prefer to just leave them alone. I'll let them cross the road and do what they have to do, but I just prefer to not associate with them.

I have has Willow (a cat) for ten years. I have always referred to her as my Daughter. Willow is great with my kids, acts like a kid, plays with the kids, thank God she feeds herself and knows how to use the bathroom. I would be devistated if something happened to Willow, not nearly as devistated if something happened to on of my kids. Overall I love my cat and kids alot.

I never really wanted children, so when I found out I couldn't have them, anyway, it wasn't that big of a blow.

So my cat is my "baby". I imagine actually having a human child would change my mind about the pet=kid thing, but that's never going to be put to the test.

I love my cat and she is a member of our family but she's not my child. I never gave birth to her and she doesn't go to school or won't get married etc.. I don't see it being the same. I do think that you can love your pets though a lot. My kitty is important to me but she's not my kid.

I simply can't love an animal the way I love a human. I do love my dogs, and our bunny, and all the animals we've had. But, they are not children nor are they human.

I really hate when people are talking about their kids and someone chimes in with, "Oh, I know what you are talking about. My dog/cat/hamster is just like a baby." NO IT ISN'T!

It's even worse when they have kids. I know people who love their animals more than they love their kids and I wonder why they bothered to breed, and what damage it's doing to the children they did bring into the world.

I love my dogs, but again, they are simply not human. I'd die for my children, I wouldn't for a dog.

I also wanted to say; I have children AND pets, there is no comparison to the effort, the affection, the need and the attachment that a child requires and thrives on compared to what a dog or cat or hamster needs. Plus, your cat isn't going to go to college, find a mate, vote, have opinions about important things and make his or her own way in the world based on how you "raised" him. Kids will.

I love and care about my pets (and all animals) more than most people I've been around. I don't have, want or plan on having any children. People that think their pets resemble children, esp. the effort required to raise them, are deluded, but that certainly doesn't mean that animals/pets aren't a better fit for some people, or that they can't bond with and love them nearly as much as children.

I only like pets (At the moment, I don't have any. But when I get stable after moving out, I'm definitely getting a snake again!) as I won't ever be having children. Pets are so much easier and awesome than children anyway. If I weren't so very allergic to cats, I'd have one right now.

I also think of my cats as "Fur babies" i don't have any children so far, but when i do I'm sure i will love my kids more then my pets, but until that time comes my kitties are my babys. heh.

I see my cats as my babies. I wasn't like that when I had family pets, but now I feel that way. I'm not a kid person, and I like having "children" that are semi-independent which is why I like having cats..

My pets ARE my children. They are cheaper, cleaner, better behaved and just easier than real children.
I'm happy with just my 4 legged kind. Don't want human ones!
