Exposed tattoos..

Contributor: FEEL.FREE FEEL.FREE
I love having tattoos but currently the only ones I have cannot be seen if I have clothes on. I've been debating getting a feather tattooed the length of my forearm on the inside and I'm just looking for outside opinions to help me decide.

here is an example I've looked at.

If there is a need to cover it, there are plenty of great body makeups out there.

I would ONLY get it if you have a plan to cover it for jobs. A lot of places are very open about that, but unless job offers are regularly thrown at you, you might not want to risk it.

That's pretty much what I was going to say. My husband has an exposed tattoo, but it's small and not easily seen under his arm hair, so I don't worry about it. If it's going to be something blatant, though, you should take into consideration that a lot of job places look down on tattoos.

I think tattoos are beautiful but I will say this about having one that is so easy to be seen is that many places of work will ask you to cover it up so just make sure you can. One fellow at work has a tear on his face and policy at our hospital is they must be covered, so he walks around with a band aid on it cause it's the only thing that will stay put!

It's a beautiful idea, but the inside of your bicep may be a better plan than the inside of your forearm. That way, it's not so "out there", and it'd be MUCH easier to hide if necessary. Sadly, society is not as accepting of body art as it should be.

I personally think it depends on where you live and what you want to do with your life. If you don't plan on becoming a high-end politician or something and you live in a town that isn't very stigmatized, go for it.

I like tattoos, I guess the only thing I would be concerned about would be that empoyers might not think it looks professional.

I voted no, but not because I believe tats should be covered! I voted no because it sort of looked like (in the photo) that someone else already had the tattoo and if so, then no I would never do that. I'd be so pissed if someone got the same tattoo as me because to me, it represents something very dear to me and for someone else to imitate something I designed that represents something personal.. I'd be F'n furious! So if someone else has the tat in that spot, no I think it's wrong to do that.

It depends on your future and planned career really. Some places don't really care or don't mind the "alternative" look of tattoos, but some jobs do not allow it, and you'd hate to be out a job because of just a visible tattoo. So I'd say it's a decision that's really quite personal for you.

Looks cool, but could hold you back job wise.

I would (did) say go for it, because forearms can be covered with sleeves. I would never personally hesitate to get a tat in a place that could not be covered if I had the money...

I have 7 tats, all in various locations, and all artistic designs. Part of my work uniform is a long sleeved black blazer, so even though the ones on my arms are prominent, they are covered when I'm at that job. My other job is at a bakery and no one there minds at all if they show, since they're not offensive in anyway. So exposed tats are totally cool, as long as you're able to cover them when need be and let them rock out when not

Tattoos are sexy in my opinon. I don't like them so much when they cover a woman's body.

I wouldn't worry unless it was a conflict for a job.

I love tattoos on people but they limit your job oppertunities. Whats the longest you've stayed in one job? What type of jobs do you apply at? What are you goals in work places? What is your cliental?

It's completely up to you on if you want to get it or not, I wouldn't worry to much about job conflicts though. I work for the school district where I am at and have a dragon tattoo on my forearm. I wear long sleeve blouses and pull overs and no ones the wiser.

I agree with this. A lot of customers don't like to see exposed tatoos, either, so that is something to think about.

if you go into some kind of artistic field the dress code is a lot more lenient

I vote yes. The only downside would be the professional issues which will vary greatly based on the field you are trying to become involved with.

I say go for it, IF you don't have a job/career or will have a job/career in the future that will frown upon this sort of thing. Otherwise, go for it!
