How many people here are childfree?

Contributor: GonetoLovehoney GonetoLovehoney
I'm childfree and I'm in the process of sterilization. I just signed my 30 day waiver (waiting time) for the procedure Essure.

I just wanted to know how many other people do not desire to reproduce or raise a child in any way.

Had my tubal this past October. Never had a maternal instinct that lasted more than a couple of weeks, so best not to mess up any kids I could have. I'm okay with it, and my family is supportive of my decision (I'm lucky that my parents never wanted to be grandparents). Master is also fine with it, as he never wanted children, either.

Awesome, I think I remember congratulating you on one of the party threads, maybe the october one.

It seems like it's hard to find partners that don't want children, I went through a few guys that were great for me in all other ways, but they wanted kids. >__<

I'm childfree, but against surgery. An IUD is the farthest I'll go. Although, the strongest form of birth control for me is a trip to the mall/Walmart. Screaming kids kills my libido.

I'm a childfree genderqueer. Congrats on the sterilization. I can't wait to get to that point. Just need the money to do it.

It depends on where you're located, In my state Illinois, I get the healthy women's card which covers sterilization if you're 21 and older. (For the male version, I've no clue other than the fact that they have it MUCH easier then uterus-bearers.)
That's how I got it paid for, sadly, you have to get a psychiatric evaluation before anything happens. Apparently they need to make sure you're not crazy and are actually wanting this to happen.

Yes, you did during the Halloween Party.

Master was concerned if I had really thought it through and I had - years before we ever met (while I was still married, in fact). I guess it helped in our situation due to the dating site we met at (international dating site); two of the questions were "Do you have kid(s)?" and "Do you want any kids?" We both answered 'no' on both, and expanded on our reasoning during initial chatting. It really helped in choosing who to talk to, since it was a 'deal-breaker' item.

It's tricky to find someone who's positive in their decision to not have any children, especially at your age. Most people do go around with "Maybe later when things settle down." Even I did for a period during my 20's until I became more confident in my desire to remain without children. I guess, at some point, the odds will throw your type in your life and you can live happily ever after.

I am 19 and I love kids but I really have never seen myself pregnant or needing that genetic tie to a child.

I have adopted nieces and nefews and I think that I would love to either adopt children that need a home later down the road or simply not have children. It is a big deal bringing kids into this world and as I will be with another woman anyway IV fertilization might cost just as much as an adoption process would anyway.

Great story's everyone and I totally support your decisions, live the way that is right for you.

We don't have any kids yet, but we will sometime in the next 2 to 5 years. We know when want them, we're just not ready yet.

On the fence here. Though i think recently been leaning towards having kids one day. I'll prolly have one of my own and then adopt. I wouldn't get the surgery though, even if i was sure i never wanted kids. Because i like to know i have the option if things change for me in the future. Once it's gone you can't get it back. I'd atleast freeze some eggs if i did, just incase. Or sperm if i was a guy lol.

I can't unvote, lol I just read the title question and not the body of the post. I assumed you just meant don't have kids right now, so I selected that I'm childfree. I do want to have kids someday.

You're not childfree, just childless. Childfree means you NEVER want children of your own.

*facepalm* I don't want to hear about people's children on this thread, I just wanted to know how many people don't want to have sprogs. Please do not post about children here, I'm sure there are plenty of other threads to do that.

Again, not in this thread. I don't want to hear about kids/children. I'm asking about those who never want them. Please read the topic before posting.

I go back and forth...

It's a toss up for me though. I like sleep, having a bit of extra money now and again, and being able to do whatever I feel like doing...then I wonder what it'd be like to be a parent.

I'm glad people can admit that they don't want to have kids. There are a LOT of people out there who shouldn't be parents, just like a lot of kids who make you contemplate the existence of pure Evil.

I always say if I can have someone bear my child for me and help me take care of it, I would have a child. I am contemplating whether to get my tubes tied.

I actually think I have more money than I did when it was just us because I am always trying to make sure they have more than enough. As for sleep, mine are now at the age where if they come downstairs and they can hear mommy's sound machine, they know I am sleeping and to be vewy vewy quiet!!

occasionally the thought of my girlfriend being pregnant pops into my mind and i involuntarily scream "NO!" over and over (I'm at the apartment alone, so only the neighbors get annoyed." I've told her this, so while i think she wants kids at some point, we have a basic idea of where the two of us stand on kids.

I hope her wanting of children dies out soon or switches the 'want' thing to pets or a hobby. (My boyfriend's on the fence and he knows that if he ever wants crotchfruit I will leave him.)

perhaps. I'm still allowing a 30% chance I'm just an immature fool, but honestly, nothing about kids is appealing,it's the same with marriage.
