Loud, Inconsiderate Neighbors.

Contributor: SkylarrStarr SkylarrStarr
As I type this, my downstairs neighbors are outside with friends taking loudly. In our apartments, you can't really hear people when they are inside, but when outside it travels. They constantly slam their door as well. Sometimes this goes on until 3 AM...it went on until 6AM a few days ago. They are also messy and very rude. I have about had it, and I am sure the office knows, as the other downstairs neighbor like to rat people out, which I don't like to do, but this is out of control! It is 1:30am where I am...if this continues, what should I do?? Help!

Call the cops and issue a complaint. Also talk to your landlords about it.

Thanks guys...they have quieted down it seems like for tonight. Since it is still occurring, maybe no one has brought it to the landlord's attention. Will be sending an email tomorrow.

We've dealt with very loud neighbors in an apartment building as well. It wasn't really anything the police could deal with because it's all within the same property. Pretty much, all you can do is talk to your landlord about it. Calling the police and having them confirm the noise level helps. Our landlord did not care about our neighbors so we just moved out.

We had one lady once who had around 8 dogs. They would bark at each other all freaking night. Worst of all, it was right next to my then newborn son's room, so it would wake him up. We called the cops quite a few times.

I would definitely tell somebody. I live in an apartment on the ground floor, more like a duplex so I don't have anyone above or below me and we live next to an elderly lady. But we have noisy neighbors in this neighborhood! The guy that lives behind us was reroofing his house and playing really loud mexican music when my boyfriend was trying to sleep! He works nights so he really got annoyed and ended up calling the cops over there. We also have mexicans that live across the street in front of us and almost every weekend they have a party and play loud music and there's tons of cars that take up space in the narrow road. I don't have anything against mexicans it's just that they play their music so loud you can hear it all the way down the block. lol.

Then there's also a guy that lives nearby (not sure where) who on a daily basis starts his car and pushes on the gas over and over, maybe he's working on it or something? I have no idea but it's so annoying. Oh and get this! Recently we started to hear chickens! I was sitting on the computer early in the morning and heard a "buck buck buck" noise and then when the sun was rising a rooster started crowing. I don't even live out in the country, just a rural neighborhood. I'm not even sure if it's legal. Everyday the rooster crows around 5am now. I have no idea where they're at but it sounds close. LOL.

Ugh. I had neighbors that were frat boys throwing parties all the time. There would be loud music during weeknights, girls screaming, men yelling...it was awful. They got 3 noise complaints filed and the police shut them down (here after a 3 warning they give you academic suspension).

Thanks guys! Yeah, is just not cool. When the other downstairs neighbor asked them to quiet down at 5 one morning they said something to the tune of Fuck off. They also trash the lawn with cigarette butts and have visitors of all kinds at all hours. They don't lock their door. I just think it is creating an unsafe environment. Oh...and they also have a dog that they let out without a leash AD don't pick up after. These actions are all def a violation of the lease terms, for sure. Thanks again for the advice!

It sounds like they have used up any kind of consideration for neighborly behavior by proving themselves to be totally inconsiderate. Once they've crossed that line, "rat them out", report them, file police complaints, complain to the manger, anything that will make the behavior stop (this side of the law). Go for it!

Wow... at 3 in the morning? How is it that people just don't get it. I'd definitely call the police, and then make sure to report them to the management in the morning. I had a manager that said they keep it in their file, and the third complaint would automatically trigger their lease to be revoked. Nothing wrong with a party, but within reasonable hours, and 3 in the morning is far from that!

Yep, I would definetely recommend you call the police. A slap on the wrist from the landlord will probably do no good.

UPDATE>>>Went to the office today to let them know what was going on. I was the second person to complain about them today. They have now moved a mattress into their living room, have who knows how many people living there AND added a kitty to the mix. The building was less than thrilled. Our maitnance man was also there when I complained. He said to call the building's emergency number if it happens again and he will come over and talk to them. They don't want us dealing with it ourselves, since they were so rude to the one guy who asked them to be quiet at 5am.

And so....these are the days of our lives....

Oh wow yeah if the apartment managers don't get things taken care of I would just call the cops. That is insane, where I use to party at was an apartment complex but even shitfaced DRUNK being outside we would try our best to be quiet! We had to go outside to smoke but lucky enough for us most of the people that were in "our building" partied with us. Respect goes along way and some people don't get that. I hope things get better for you and the living conditions where you are.
