Regretted Tattoos

Contributor: Eliza Eliza
I really want a tattoo, but I'm scared I'll end up not liking it or regretting it. Not that I don't think I'll like whatever I choose to get, but that I'll be upset about having it on my body permanently (I like the way I look naked now, and I don't know if I want to change how I look).

I don't have any tattoos, but when/if I do get one, I will be sure to put a lot of thought into it before choosing what it is. My partner has tattoos he regrets that he got at a young age. I assume that most of the people who regret any tattoos they have, got them when they were young. I could be wrong though, since I don't have any I am just guessing lol.

I have 3 tattoos so far and don't regret them because I take very careful consideration into the design and location. I would always be sure to make it so that I can cover names and such up, just in case.

My ex husband got a bunch of random tattoos. One he regrets and the others I wonder if one day he will. He, on a whim, decided to get the "Zod" symbol from Superman as a tramp stamp and regrets it because he decided on it in less than 24 hours before getting it.

I have a few tattoos. I don't regret them at all. I put a lot of time into finding exactly what I want. I don't think I know anyone who regrets their tattoos.

I don't get my tattoos on a whim. I wait a year or so to see if I still want that one tattoo. I don't want to regret any of them. The ones I have now I've wanted for well over 3 4 years. I doubt Ill ever regret them.

I wish I didn't have a tattoo.

I actually did wait more than a year before getting it. I completely still love the design, and I love telling the story that inspired it when someone new asks. It looks pretty.

But I wish it wasn't embedded in my skin. I should have just made a poster or something.

Like, when a lover looks at my body in repose---I just wish it was pristine again. With two clear, same-colored shoulderblades. Symmetrical, the way I was born.

I try not to regret anything in life, tattoos included. There are a few that I have that I would change because it wasn't the design I wanted and I let the artist change my mind, but the artwork is still beautiful all the same. There are times I wish I didn't have as many tattoos as I do, but I don't really regret any of them because they're part of me now. I don't think I'd get any of them removed either, for a few different reasons. One being that these were my choices and I should have to live with them, and also for the monetary aspect; I spent how much money to put this on me permanently only to spend how much more money to remove it? And it's going to hurt how much? I'll just keep it, thank you.

I have yet to get one. I would like to do something like red butterfly wings on my back but I just not sure in 10-20 years I will be happy with it.

I have also known people who had gotten them while they where drunk and wished they had not. Also when you are looking for some one make sure you look at their work and check people who have had the person do the tattoo done by them. Make sure you look for some one who knows how to not let the tattoo bleed (when i say that I mean after a long time if the needle had gone too deep the tattoo will start to become larger lined because the ink 'bleeds' into the skin that is why you see some people with thick lined tattoos. But also there are some who look for the thick lined.

Just before you get one make sure you talk with the person who you want to get the tattoo from and make sure you are happy with their work. Also look into many places and see what you like and who you like. Good luck.

This is kind of what I'm worried about. I love the designs and the meanings that I have chosen, and I know I won't ever grow out of them, but I'm worried that I'll regret getting it on my body, changing the way my body looks.

I'm glad that someone else knows what I mean, because I think most people are talking about ideas that are rushed into or not serious, whereas my worry isn't about that at all.

I understand what you're saying, but this isn't what I'm worried about. I'm worried about regretting changing the way my body looks, not about individual designs or quality or anything like that.

I think, so far as this goes... probably a lot more people who have tattoos feel this way than will admit it. Most people take the "well, I spent all this money, and there's no point in regretting it, so I'm just gonna be PROUD" stance.

And, most of the time, I don't admit I regret it. But when someone's debating their first tattoo, it's easier for me to be honest. Don't do it. It's not a bitter regret, but I would be happier without it.

I'm not very into tattoos, but I am into scarification. For those that don't know, this is either cutting or branding flesh, which heals and leaves a scar. It's not for self-inflicted injury purposes, it's for the same reasons that one has when getting a tattoo. I find the look more natural and more aethetically appealing than the look of tattoos.
Anyhow, when I was around 15 I really wanted scarification, but obviously couldn't because I was underage and my parents wouldn't give consent to a professional even if it was legal. That of course left me with three years of thinking, and I figured that if I still wanted the same thing by the time I turned 18, that it wouldn't be likely that I would regret it. I still haven't gotten anything done, but I still like what I first came up with, so it may happen one day. I think the test of time is a good way to be sure that you're not getting something that you will regret in the future.

I have a tattoo that I wish I no longer have on my skin, but I don't regret it, per say. It is one that I got with a past love of mine, but has personal meaning to me as well. I plan on getting it covered up at some point in the future.

Think before you ink... I need to get one covered up. Otherwise if you get a tattoo that has meaning to you, you should never regret it

Nope. I'm not into tattoos. I'm more okay with piercings for that exact reason -- you can take it out when you no longer want it.

I don't regret any of my tattoos, but my mom regrets hers. She has a pair of wings on her upper back. I'm not sure why she regrets them though, because they're actually really good.
